Unfortunately for anyone trying to get 111 this evening, it went back to the depot early. Its last working was the 2117 from Liverpool to Ormskirk which terminated at Sandhills due to a shortage of train crew, and the rest of its diagram was cancelled.

It was back out today. So i assume its still got a while yet before its removed from service?
508111 reportedly taken out of service while working Chester line this afternoon, after limping along for a bit on only half power. Photo shared on Mersey Railways 2.0 Facebook shows it dumped in one of the sidings at New Brighton tonight. Looks like it really is the end this time.
In other news, there is apparently a ‘farewell tour’ for the 508s pencilled in for 29 October. There is a ”save the date” fixture on the Branch Line Society’s website. (This probably needs a separate thread in the Railtours subforum but I thought I would mention it here for completeness)

It has been said it’s still leaving on Monday, so it sadly probably is the end . Always happy to be proved wrong if it comes back to life though. It’s put up a proper fight

It’s been a concerning week on Merseyrail. Becoming clear they don’t have enough trains to run a full service. 3 cars all over the shop Southports, faults galore and forcing 508111 to run broken tells you all you need to know

It did indeed finish then, was referring to this Chester adventures earlier in the week
So it wasn't 'forced to run broken' then. It was taken out of service.

I noticed that Southport is going back to every 30 min on Sunday despite the airshow, wonder if they just can't get enough of them in service anymore
