Does anyone know what’s up with 016 I’ve heard it’s in the EMUD for maintenance or the wheel lathe?

Has 507018 done the 1712 from Southport? I was on 507017/001 and I thought a 507 passed me between Ainsdale and Hillside

Thanks Dave. 016 out of service for the umpteenth time needing maintenance? Never!

507001 formed the 07.38 Liverpool Central - Southport service this morning (14/05), covering a 777 which failed to depart Southport with the 06.07 from there. However, it has now been replaced and is running empty as 5T60.

I’ve seen 507001 alone passing Freshfield at high speed twice this morning. Heading south both times. What would be the reason for this? It appears the train has gone towards Hunts Cross and then done it again. Would this be from changes of plan on its use?

Please see post above: covering a 777 for a single journey this morning. Now on its way to the Wirral Line.

Do we know what’s up with 016?

Was covering 777039. When I arrived for my train this morning, there was a few engineers on site rebooting it and at one point had no tail lights showing either. Assuming it was fixed later on

The rheostatic brakes on 507018 have been switched back on. They were off this morning. Sounds hellfire!

507016 is at West Kirby ready to work the 07.51 departure this morning. Track circuit issues have had the trains down on this line early doors, but 016 has indeed run.

Did a round trip on it. Flying along. Slight flats one end.

016's rheostatic does not work, so no.
How many units have working rheostatic brakes? How easy is it to switch on and off? Presumably both units in a pair have to be on or off? 507007 appeared to be working in to Hunts Cross last night but not working on 507023 on the return trip.

001 barely, 007, 017, 018 and 029 are the ones left with working dynamic now that 016 has been confirmed it hasn’t

507003 has reportedly come out to play on the Chester line in place of an errant 777. Started from Rock Ferry at 1444 heading towards Liverpool. Credit to posters on Mersey Railways 2.0 Facebook for the info.

There is a circuit breaker behind the driver's cab which allows the rheostatic brakes to be disabled. Normally this is reserved for extreme weather etc. but some drivers, mostly Southport-based, have taken to switching it off as a matter of course. It can be inconsistent in performance between individual units amongst other things.

007's rheostatic is in full working order, whilst 023 had it working in one motor only until about a fortnight ago. Five left with it working now as mentioned above, although 001's is not 'barely': it's working again in both motors and sounds excellent.

I must say 507016 was running well on the West Kirby line today. A good turn of speed and solid ride quality too, although a bit rough starting off. Definitely better than 003 on the Chester line with its lacklustre acceleration and terrible suspension. It was funny to hear another enthusiast describe it as 'smooth'; I love all the 507s but that one most definitely isn't smooth. Still, give me that over a 777 any time.

I have only had 507003 twice this year and I have to say it is a bag of bolts. Does it still have the dodgy luggage rack that rattles like mad every time the compressor cuts in? It was the only one I didn't have over the past three days.

Thanks Dave. Makes tracking things down a lot easier for this afternoon.

I really thought the 'two 507s on the Wirral' ship had sailed but, excellently, they just keep on appearing. There must be a fair few 777s sidelined, unless they're just giving the old codgers a bit of a run out.
