It was supposed to happen months ago, so better to be thankful for what you have had, than raging at there being no further extension.
No I completely understand why there is no extension and I am thankful for that, I don’t want to have to ride these things up and down anymore, But I am raging at the fact that when I do so there will be no decent ones remaining. Although I very highly doubt I will be riding up and down on them ever again

I dont at all understand the logic of keeping 003 on till the end - it should've gone in place of 018 today. I'm sure 018 would still be performing a strong reliable service if that was the case!

8 full cancellations in one day is still pretty poor to be honest! Lets not forget that a few weeks ago we had 507029 and 507018 doing the Saturday services on the Chester line due to lack of working 777's. The 777's get fixed, behave for a while then drop like flies all at the same time - I really hope that when the 507's are gone and Birkenhead North starts doing maintenance on the 777s that the availability improves.

Similar situation to Arriva Trains Northern back in December 2019, to Covid 19, March 2020, when the 195s first came in, and 195 reliability was very very dire, and only a small handful of pacers remained in service, however this was a lot worse,
With many more services cancelled, ie due to Prmi disability act, more pacers sent for scrap, then they had 195 in service at the time, which was the final straw, which led to the franchise termination.

I know that, you know that. But the wailing about these things is completely out of proportion with their significance. Just another bang average suburban EMU.
Agreed, if the replacements are now more readily available then it's absolutely natural that these forty year old trains are given the heave ho. The way some act on here you'd think this was a preserved railway or enthusiast attraction, rather than a functioning city commuter railway. Merseyrail do not owe 507 enthusiasts anything, and have already heritage liveried one and provided two farewell tours for fans despite the two 50x classes being virtually the same.

As mentioned, the full cancellations were mostly due to a track obstruction so not a fair reflection on the 777. And a couple of weeks ago was during the full-fleet recall, no? This caused many a cancellation but it appears the fleet has got through that will the swelling numbers and doubled-up units.

I understand the frustration - I still dislike having to keep an eye on OTT/Railcam every morning and afternoon to check my inbounds are running OK - but objectively the 777 does seem to be improving, and so this is the end of the 507s.

A video posted on Mersey Railways 2.0 would seem to confirm it was indeed 003 and 029. Possibly the last ever run of a 507 under its own power?
If it was 003/029, it wouldnt be the last run, with them still needing to get to North. This would probably happen sometime this week however

It has already happened. 507003 and 029 arrived at Birkenhead North depot just after 11.30 this morning to conclude 507 operations.

They will need to move 001 though to be in front of 003 as the pioneer is scheduled to leave a week before 003.

003 and 029 confirmed in the shed this morning.

Photo attached shows 230008, 507003 and 507029 in the shed at Birkenhead North.

As 029 has been put in front of 001 rather than 023, possibly that indicates the next scrap move will be 001 and 029 in order to keep the pioneer on its originally planned departure date of 9th December.

All 507s off the juice now. :'(

Also worth mentioning 507007 and 507018 are currently being stripped for parts by members of the 507 Preservation Group at Newport, as a source of spares for 507001.

Just heard that 029 is now officially withdrawn and will be dragged to Newport next Monday with 001 leaving just 003 and 023.

Was there a path showing for the final ECS move from Kirkdale C.S. to Birkenhead North E.M.U.D.?

EDIT: it looks as though it ran as 5T82 but is not showing on RTT, shame.

Sure I read a while back that 003 was to be kept for track monitoring purposes for some years to come (hence the camera fitted at one end). Has this plan been shelved? Or is there hope still for 507 movement (even if not carrying the public).
