I believe they are recruiting for 50 yes FIVE ZERO positions at the moment!!
That said on another forum only 2 of the 7 that admitted to applying actually got through to the first assessment day, which is tomorrow! One of those is me!!!
The unfortunate part is there is little (read no) information on the metrolink recruitment process out there and most of the drivers I've spoke to so far were recruited in very different ways!!
All we have been told is it will last 3 hours and involve climbing in and out of the trams!!
Well assessment afternoon was as follows.
- Driving licence check
- Mobility test (Basically climbing in and out of a unit fom the ground)
- The Dials test
- Rules test
- Brief break - those that failed the first two tests were asked to leave at this point
- SCATT test (Shapes not dots)
- Metrolink own test (Basic maths + English)
- Interview
Sadly my day ended after the 2nd tests. I assume I failed on the shapes test as the metrolink maths and english was very basic stuff.
Well I can reapply in 6 months as per other TOC's but a little downhearted after 3 hours hard work to fall at the last hurdle. Hope this info will help other perspective candidates though.
I was one of the fortunate ones to get through to an interview. The interviews were meant to be held on the same day (although we werent told this until we got to the depot), but time ran out which was disappointing.
Metrolink do a good job of trying to relax you ahead of the various tests.
If I was interviewing someone that hadn't checked that kind of detail out beforehand I would not be impressed. Interviews should be for clarification not information, you're selling yourself, showing the company you are interested in them. Much better to say something along the lines of "HR told me the shift patterns are... is that right?" than say you don't know what it is you're applying for and ask a load of basic questions.I dont know nowhere near enough about the actual job. Shift patterns, wage structure, overtime rate, etc, although interview stage will no doubt be the place to ask. Any Metrolink Drivers on here willing to answer some questions?
Absolutely. Just make sure you show you have made the effort to find out! I guess I just read your post in a negative way.Fair comment although surely an interview works two ways - for both parties to ensure they are happy with each other. That is how it has worked at previous interviews interviews I have been to.
Not always. Interviews are to find out what people are like and like you say for you to find out about the company. There should be a job spec but the finer points are something you deal with afterwards.I have trawled through the internet and can find pretty much bugger all about working conditions etc. Usually when you apply for a job, terms and conditions are given as part of the invitation to apply.

Do you have a contact for the Metrolink HR dept to see if they can give you some answers in advance?
Got reject thur email yesterday with no reason given
Yeah, got it lined up for next week.
I got a reply through yesterday inviting me to an assessment day in November.I had to wait about Six weeks for a response and like other people of said there is very little information about working for Metrolink.
I've noticed that they are advertising the job on their website again. I'm not sure whether it would be worth me putting in a fresh application (rewritten and triple checked!) or if they would just bin it straight out.
again? gud idea, u hv nothing to lose.
i might do that too
