I was wondering the year when 4 wheeled mineral wagons were withdrawn from operation. I'm not sure the type name but modellers will instantly recognise the wagon I mean if i say the words Bolsover, S+C, Norstand, British Steel. I have a DVD showing Welsh Valleys operations from circa 1989 which shows a cl37 coming down the Ebbw Vale line with black wagons very similar to these. It is the only time AFAIK, I have seen this wagon type on a rail DVD

I'm guessing most probably when the HAAs were introduced, although I bet it was a slow and gradual process.

The HAA coal hoppers were introduced from the mid sixties onwards to replace the old vacuum braked 20 tonne steel hoppers. I think what is being referred to here is the more box shaped open wagons, which carried the sort of mineral traffic that HAAs never dealt with. Like the Hornby long wheelbase mineral wagon that is based on the chassis of the four wheel coach.

As with most wagon types, I reckon you're right 142094 with the withdrawal being slow and gradual.

There's so many different types of mineral wagon it's difficult to know where to start. I think that this fits the bill: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/foxfield/br_tippler.htm
