Do we know what the budget is?Network Rail probably hasn't mentioned it because they set the budget so high that even being "under budget" would still look ruinously expensive.

The project from previous parts of this scheme was around £4m per single track kilometre I believe.Do we know what the budget is?

From the original post on this thread 7th Jan 2015....." The overall cost is set at £1.3 billion (original estimate £0.9 billion)". But there have been significant changes in delivery (or non delivery) since that time and, of course Carillion was the original contractor and they went bust!
While I understand your point, for any given budget I'd rather they come in under budget rather than over!Network Rail probably hasn't mentioned it because they set the budget so high that even being "under budget" would still look ruinously expensive.
Which presumably bodes well for authorising RS2 and RS3?The consensus from those in the know appears to be that this section has been in time/on budget.
All budgets can be changed. Just need to understand the reasons for budget change, like unexpected circumstances. While I understand your point, for any given budget I'd rather they come in under budget rather than over!
Indeed. Credit where credit is due.I think the present team, who have delivered the Kettering to Wigston electrification have done a really good job and I hope they are now authorised to get the section North of Leicester started. They have had to cope with the original contractor going bust, Mr Grayling pausing, stopping and then restarting it, Covid and all that that entailed - Yet they still kept to what they said they could deliver....Well Done!
Night time testing and a first run the MML this week, shiny new boards (covered over ) have appeared near [London] gateway services in both directions. Could be class 810 pan down and up boards.

Siemens were beavering away at the TSC site near Wigston earlier although cables still to be terminated on structures but easily deliverable for the July energisation.Just to confirm there is still no Catenary or contact wires around the Braybrooke supply site. The Three Arches (Ex) bridge site is now almost clear of construction/demolition activity.
Confirmed Phil, about half a mile to do x 2, does anyone know how long that would take to do? Presumably some time before the big switch on in July. NRs High Output train is supposed to be able to do about a mile in an overnight possession.Confirmed Phil, about half a mile to do x 2, does anyone know how long that would take to do? Presumably some time before the big switch on in July. Obviously.
I suspect next weekend's possession through Market Harborough would suffice. Plus overnight snagging as needed.Confirmed Phil, about half a mile to do x 2, does anyone know how long that would take to do? Presumably some time before the big switch on in July. Obviously.
From Network RailEnergisation is still scheduled for 28th July. Also today is the 1 year anniversary since Derby ECR went live.
Yes all the infrastructure is there, they "just" need to swing the insulators through 90 degrees and put the catenary and contact wires up.I suspect next weekend's possession through Market Harborough would suffice. Plus overnight snagging as needed.
I actually don't know. From memory, the train was formed of 8 MK3a coaches (mainly from the 'Pretendolino'), top-and-tailed by 2 ex-EMR 43s (43054, which might need heavy repairs at Crewe, and 43066, currently squirrelled away in Nemesis Rail's sidings at Burton) and 2 ex-LNER 91s (91122 & 91128; both since scrapped).I assume the DATS OLE test train will be making an appearance again once the OLE is live?
It means it should be treated as live from that date, it doesn't necessarily mean it will be. They will send a test train along sometime after that date, assuming nothing has gone bang in the meantimeOn July 28th, how will the process work on the day. Will they have gangs between Wigston and Kettering with testing equipment, to make sure the current is flowing through, or will they send out a test loco with its pan up.

91117 & 91120 could also be possible candidates in lieu of the scrapped pair, but I've no idea what coaches will be used.
Last contact wire run of Kettering-Wigston to be installed tonight, it seems!Yes all the infrastructure is there, they "just" need to swing the insulators through 90 degrees and put the catenary and contact wires up.
Surely a 360 would be used?Perhaps a pendolino will be hauled over?
The DM contact wire is in as of now. Just the UM left.Last contact wire run of Kettering-Wigston to be installed tonight, it seems!

What's the peak power draw on a 12 car 360?Surely a 360 would be used?
At a guess, around 4650kW, that's 186A at nominal line voltage. What's the peak power draw on a 12 car 360?
B….y h… that is a lot of current! My mind automatically went to calculating mode of I squared R ! In fairness, resistances will be low though. At a guess, around 4650kW, that's 186A at nominal line voltage.
