As known Leicester-Bedford (-Luton Sunday) is closed this weekend for work is there to be many more weekend closures of the line in the next few weeks/months? Thanks

All blocked Luton - Bedford Sunday. Replacement buses.

Indeed, Bedford terminators are terminating Platform 3 at Luton and shunting over to Platform 1 via Luton North Junction to reform London services.

Rainham services using Platform 2 all day for intermediate stations.

Images taken on Tuesday but forgot to upload them. Weekend works at wellingborough, all 4 lines now have OHLE up. Lots of work going on on the new P4. General overview north to south and south to north.

Also noticed the signals on the slow lines have had a redesignation from the LR (Leicester prefix) to BK (bedford to Kettering prefix).

Does anyone know why there is a staggered/gap between the structure and the registration arm.
The new bridge is almost connected a small gap is all that remains, the end cap has been removed and hoarding erected.

At the time of posting the workers are currently laying tarmac on the new P4.

Happened to be perusing RTT for May and services are booked to call at P4 eg 0730 Derby to St Pancras.

Happened to notice quite a few SPL Powerlines vans parked near railway access points in Market Harborough last weekend, which I guess is a promising sign.

We have had clear reports in the last week or so at the preserved St Albans South signal box that West Hampstead PSB is to remain, and the Entrance-Exit panel to be replaced in due course with screens.

Modern Railways is reporting a Network Rail CEO Andrew Haines speech saying ROCs are not always the best solution and giving the example that moving WH to Derby would loose all the local knowledge of the signallers who would not move to Derby. (April 2020 pp71) There is no business case for doing the move to Derby. WH will be developed with "operational capability".

Kettering now is fully wired all platforms and Corby station too-I've not been Corby before so not sure how long that's been completed.its almost certain this will be fully ready for December, however there may not be the trains as only two Anglia 745s are in service and no 720s yet....

You would hope they will move the 360's regardless, if the replacements are ready or not. What is the alternative 365's (100mph max so would loose no time)

The initial electric timetable will probably be based on 100mph south of Bedford, as the existing OLE hasn't been upgraded yet. It wouldn't surprise me if they timed the entire journey (of the EMUs) for 100mph too at first, just in case they don't get the units or the 110mph upgrades aren't completed in time.

I thought it was already said that the first few 360s into service will be 'as-is' from Greater Anglia, ie 3+2 seating & 100mph. Given the rather short time between the 360s starting to become released and EMR needing to complete their internal cascade to get rid of the HSTs there isn't much (any!) time to do upgrades on them.

Can we try to stick to the MML electrification on this thread please

Feel free to create a new thread (if there isn't one already) in the relevant area to discuss traction & rolling stock updates or speculative ideas, thanks :)

Seeing as the Bedford-Corby extension is set to be commissioned as a boosterless classic setup this Easter, will it be converted to an autotransformer setup in time for the EMR bi-modes (and if so, how far north from the Borehamwood feed)?

Also, are there any new neutral sections in the ~45-mile stretch between the Chalton feed and Corby?

I would have thought there would be at least two

Pity if they replace the NX with screens as one of the issues they're suffering with at the EMCC is that when things get busy or start going up the spout it's impossible for one signaller to deal with everything going on at the same time with a tracker ball, and the SSM or another signaller just can't go on to help out in the same way as with an NX panel. Their southern panel, which now extends South of Sharnbrook Jn is apparently 'challenging' at times even on a good day.

It's possible to have more than one screen workstation controlling the same area. Maybe they will provide a second one for that section.

I have not yet seen any confirmation that there will, at least, be electrification from Glendon to Market Harborough for the substation at Braybrooke to be connected. The last information was that a financial case was being sought?....Whilst all the workers and plant are nearby, it must be the most sensible option.

It seems as though there is approval after all "On 26 February 2019 Andrew Jones, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport, announced that electrification would be extended northwards from Kettering to Market Harborough, enabling the connection of the railway to a new power supply point at Braybrooke" this is from Wiki but it is a quote from the Railway Gazette in March. "Electrification to reach Market Harborough". Railway Gazette. 5 March 2019.
So has any work been done yet from Glendon to MH?

That's good news. I doubt there would have been any mobilization in less than a week, and there may not yet even be a design signed off for construction. But hopefully some at least of the current teams can move on without being stood down.

Hi Edwin
The approval was last year (2019) so something should have happened by now I would have thought.....
