Lost somewhere within Bank-Monument tube station,
Yesterday, I believe I beat my previous record for number of train operating companies travelled on in one day. For reference, it goes as such (mixed in with numerous tube journeys, DLR, bus routes and a Tramlink journey as well)

Greater Anglia - Ipswich to Liverpool Street
Chiltern - Marylebone to Harrow-On-The-Hill
First Great Western - Greenford to Ealing Broadway.
South West Trains - Richmond to Waterloo
Southeastern - London Bridge to Kidbrooke
c2c - West Ham to Fenchurch Street
Southern - Victoria to Mitcham Junction
First Capital Connect - East Croydon to Blackfriars
Greater Anglia - Stamford Hill to Cambridge Heath
London Overground - Shoreditch High Street to Shadwell
Greater Anglia - Liverpool Street to Ipswich

So that's 9 TOCs in one day, the only one I missed which I could've caught using Oyster was London Midland (probably Harrow and Wealdstone to Euston). Obviously, it's easier if you live in or nearby the London area...

So, what's your record? If there's a thread like this elsewhere on the forum, please merge this with that.

For me, probably my (almost) yearly jaunt down to Cornwall:

Northern - Normanton to Wakefield
Grand Central - Wakefield to Kings Cross

stroll across town

South Eastern - Charing Cross to Waterloo
South West Trains - Waterloo to Exeter St Davids
First Great Western - Exeter St Davids to Penzance.

Don't think I've been on more on one day.

I recall a thread on here a while back where someone posted an itinerary showing it is possible to do all tocs in one day. I can't seem to find the post now though :/

Highest I've managed is four, but only because of disruption as otherwise it would have been one: SW, GW, GX, SN

I've had several different combinations of three though :P
SW, VT, TP
SW, SN, LM
SW, SN, SE
GA, LO, CC

Best I've managed is 7...

Southeastern - Gillingham to London Victoria
Southern - London Victoria to Epsom
South West Trains - Epsom to London Waterloo
LU
First Capital Connect - Blackfriars to St Pancras International
LU
Abellio Greater Anglia - Stratford to London Liverpool Street
LU
C2C - London Fenchurch Street to Barking
London Overground - Barking to Blackhorse Road
LU
Southeastern - London Victoria to Gillingham

If I had the time and motivation, I'd be tempted to use an algorithm (probably Djikstra's) to see if it was possible to do and the quickest way of doing all the TOCs around London (SE, SW, SN, FGW, FCC, GA, C2C, CN, LM, HX, HC, VT, EC, EMT).

There was a challenge to cover all TOCs for the cheapest total cost of 'normal' walk-up tickets a while ago.

I'm finding it difficult to come up with something that covers all TOCs in a day, because the two OAOs complicate things massively, with the comparatively infrequent timetable. Then again, I've probably not come up with a particularly good route around London, since I've got connections down between Marylebone and Paddington, Paddington and Liverpool Street, Stratford (LE) and West Ham, Tower Hill and Victoria and Brixton and Vauxhall
This is the best I've got, and that's missing East Coast off.

I did 8 a few months back mainly on a Bradford to Guildford return ticket.

Northern (Bradford - Leeds)
TPE (Leeds - Manchester Pic)
ATW (Manchester pic - Stockport)
Virgin WC (Stockport - Crewe)
LM (Crewe - Stoke on trent)
XC (Stoke on Trent - Birmingham NS)
Chiltern (between other two birmingham stations on another ticket)
XC again (Birmingham NS to Reading)
FGW (Reading to Guildford)
SWT (Guildford to Worplesdon, after picking up my bike and buying another ticket)

I could have done EMT as well if I had tried.
