Best scrap any of the post HS2 indicative timetable work thats been done then if we are dropping to 110mph.

If you don't tilt, you can't really go any faster. There's no point continuing to purchase Pendolinos for the WCML if they aren't ever going to need to carry many passengers north of Preston. If there are places where it would be possible to provide standard (non-EPS) 200-230km/h speed limits on the WCML Fast lines then that makes perfect sense but really the more sensible option is to concentrate on having high capacity IEP (or son-of-IEP) services with a regular stopping pattern.

Josh is just enormously enthusiastic. He wants to learn.

But apparently, according to his earlier posts, he knows lots about the railways! ;) :roll:

Most of his 'questions' could be answered with a 5 second Google* search!

* other search engines available!

Even if he does know all about everything, (on earlier posts I've seen he said he's new to being fascinated with railways etc.) this is an idea he has to benefit more people with HS2 than the current route.
Yes it maybe impossible to build but Google wouldn't answer this or a few of his other threads, like who'd operate HS2?

I could understand a 3 track route (2 HS and one 110mph). The slower line could branch off from the Chiltern Aylesbury at Clavert and have stations along the planned alignment at Brackley, Southam and Kenilworth. Then connect on the WCML just south of Birmingham International. All the stations would be passing loops and have say an hourly service into London Marylebone (or Paddington) and Birmingham New Street. That could sweeten the deal for South Northants at least...

Hm can't decide if this comment was in my favour or sarcasm lol

You probably need to read the mass of pages and pages of threads that are contained on this forum before starting new threads, the vast amount of information already available via RailForums or Google should keep you more than busy and should already answer the vast number of your questions. Searching before posting results in the same question not being asked again and again.

Your enthusiasm is commendable though :)

Better to have three two track lines by three different routes than one six track line.

It took a little while to understand exactly what Josh was suggesting but I think it's reasonably clear now and I actually sympathise with the basic idea (that HS2 should serve smaller towns as well as the big cities).

BUT

you don't need 6 tracks - 4 will more than do;
the HS2 route deliberately avoids built-up areas;
widening the route will create significant extra cost and huge extra protests.

(I can see the proposed route of HS2 from my front bedroom window. I'm reasonably relaxed about a new two-track formation, but six!)
