Some help please. After various searches of the internet in general and this forum I have failed to find what I want.

I am probably being stupid or just unbelieving, but can anybody please explain the validity of the N-Network Daytripper. I find the information on the various websites somewhat confusing.

Whose services is travel permitted on? The information on the National Express West Midlands site (http://nxbus.co.uk/west-midlands/tickets-prices/day-tickets/n-network-daytripper) says all train services in the Network West Midlands area. Does this really mean travel by all TOCs?

Also, I find the map (http://nxbus.co.uk/files/NXWMNEWMAPMaster.pdf) providing the operating area confusing as it does not show the "Network West Midlands area". It is just the bit in white or the bit enclosed by the West Midlands County boundary?

One last questions - can these tickets be bought in advance outside the area?

Thanks for your assistance,

Roy

Whose services is travel permitted on?

  • All bus services where n-bus is accepted (virtually all of them - NXWM, Blue Diamond, Arriva [roughly to Sutton Coldfield or Minworth depending on which number]to name three)
  • All services within the zones*, any TOC and no pm peak (after 0930 for the off-peak one)
  • The Midland Metro

* the zones = Any shaded colour (except purple) on this map

The information on the National Express West Midlands site (http://nxbus.co.uk/west-midlands/tickets-prices/day-tickets/n-network-daytripper) says all train services in the Network West Midlands area. Does this really mean travel by all TOCs?

Yes it does

That map you linked is a bus map - it is valid in all those areas for the bus. For the train use the map I linked to above.

One last questions - can these tickets be bought in advance outside the area?

Thanks for your assistance,

Roy

It can be bought in advance (one month iirc) but not sure if it can be bought outside the area as it's printed on special stock. What station would you be looking to get it from? Some of the closer stations may sell it.

More information can be found on the NWM site: http://tickets.networkwestmidlands....icketID=39&TicketOptionID=30390&resultsPage=0

If I'm reading this information correctly, it is valid on trains, trams and most buses within Centro Zones 1-5. It can also be used on some buses into neighbouring counties. Available from staffed stations and TWM travel centres. Not valid before 0930 Monday-Friday.

Rail area bounded by - Wolves, Bloxwich North, Blake St, Coventry, Dorridge, Earlswood, Longbridge and Stourbridge Jn (Town branch is included). 'Add-on' extension covers Bloxwich North-Rugeley TV, and 'Plus' extension covers areas to Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick, Leamington Spa, Kidderminster and Lichfield TV.

I know it cannot be used on NX buses outside the county boundary.

However, it can be used on some out-of-county operators, such as Stagecoach Warks, on services which enter the West Midlands county (again, usually only as far as the boundary though).

The validity boundary goes a little further than the country boundary at a couple of points - for example travel to Kinver is included.

On the Network West Midlands site there is a list of operators showing which accept N-network:

http://www.networkwestmidlands.com/MultimodalOperators/multimodal_operators.aspx

The only bus operator that does not accept the card is the Green Transport Company, and then only on school services. All five TOCs accept the ticket (ATW, Chiltern, XC, LM and VT) as does the Metro.

It does not seem that you can buy one from outside the county.

Note that that's for the n-network card not the n-bus card.

For validity purposes, the area is the same - they are both accepted where you see the "n" symbol on the front of the bus.

This generally applies to ANY National Express bus wherever it goes, even outside the county for example Kinver, Womborne, Codsall.

Other operators may accept it only on parts of the routes that go out of the county eg Arriva's 110 service to Tamworth.

That map shows the boundaries for NX's own travelcards, not the nNetwork and nBus products.

You can also buy it on buses.

If you ask for it before 0930 you'll be sold the more expensive nNetwork One-Day which is exactly the same validity apart from the time restriction.

Certainly not true of NX Coventry buses. nNetwork is not valid to Kenilworth, Leamington or Bedworth.

Sorry, should have said NX West Midlands. They don't venture out of the county boundary as far as NX Coventry.

Errr, Smethwick!
For the avoidance of doubt, as not everyone is as familiar with the extent of the West Midlands County as others, the definitive area for use of n-Network tickets on buses is shown on Centro's area bus maps (here at http://www.networkwestmidlands.com/bus/bus-maps.aspx and printed versions). Small areas outside the West Midlands County are in the same cream colour as inside the county - these are the extensions allowing travel to Kinver, Wombourne, etc. See Kereseley example attached.

Not as easy to detect, if your general sight or colour vision's poor (or if you're utterly hopeless with maps), as simply listing the boundary points somewhere, but hey-ho, that's what we've got.
