It has been pointed out to me that the nearest closed station to home is actually the old York Racecourse station, which is a good 50 chains closer.

It was just to the South of York station, just before the iron bridge carrying Holgate Road over the line when approaching from the Leeds/London direction. Roughly where the sidings which generally have some Freightliner bogie hoppers and/or excursion stock in are now. The footbridge just before Holgate Road used to have steps down to platform level.

The station wasn't part of the racecourse, but it was a much shorter walk than walking from the main station. It also had the benefit of keeping racegoers (and the race trains) away from the main station. Might be a good idea to reintroduce them!!
