2. Kidderminster ('Snow Hill Lines')

Too easy.

As for where the boat is moored, I had to look this up...

2. Willington (Derby - Birmingham main line)
3. Duffield (Ecclesbourne Valley Railway)

Nearest closed line: St. Helens Shaw Street to Rainford. Not sure which would be nearest station, possibly Moss Bank or Crank.
Still Open: St. Helens Shaw St. (now Central)
Heritage: Either West Lancs Light Railway or East Lancs Railway.

Nearest closed station is Scotby on the Tyne Valley. Closed line is the Carlisle goods line which closed in the mid1980s after a bit of a mishap!

Nearest open station is Carlisle.

Nearest preserved station is Slaggyford on the South Tynedale Railway.

1. Closed Railway: Former ECML from Chaloner's Whin Junction to Selby, at Chaloner's Whin Junction.
Closed Station: Copmanthorpe on the former Y&NM to Church Fenton, now ECML.
2. Open Station: York (1877) on the ECML (among others!).
3. Murton Station on the Derwent Valley Light Railway, at (funnily enough!) Murton.

It has been pointed out to me that the nearest closed station to home is actually the old York Racecourse station, which is a good 50 chains closer.

I didn't know there used to be a station at York Racecourse

It was just to the South of York station, just before the iron bridge carrying Holgate Road over the line when approaching from the Leeds/London direction. Roughly where the sidings which generally have some Freightliner bogie hoppers and/or excursion stock in are now. The footbridge just before Holgate Road used to have steps down to platform level.

The station wasn't part of the racecourse, but it was a much shorter walk than walking from the main station. It also had the benefit of keeping racegoers (and the race trains) away from the main station. Might be a good idea to reintroduce them!!:smile:

1) Either Sanderstead or Purley Oaks - haven't paced it out exactly but I think it's probably the former by a small margin.
2) Selsdon (Road)
3) East Grinstead on the Bluebell.

Triangulation possibilities increasing.
