Nelson has name boards on its platforms variously proclaiming it to be "Nelson", "Nelson Interchange" and "Nelson Station". Why?
However I would suggest that various different names for the town's train station are the least of its worries.

The Interchange signs were put up last year-ish when the bus station outside was built. The Nelson Station name is a bit silly unless someone wanted Nelson Halt! I know a halt without a platform existed near Colne.
That table38 post above about Nelson being named after a pub because anothrler station on the line was called Marsden is interesting.
Seems as though the locals are turning a blind eye to this. Perhaps the local paper will write a column about it?

Also noticed Rose Grove spelt RoseGrove but the latter was on what I'm assuming was a Community project sign.
There was a loco shed at Rose Grove. In fact it was one of the last to close to steam in the August of 1968.
I always think of it as 24B from the days of my youth, rather than its final code of 10F...![]()
Travelling through Nelson in Lancashire earlier as part of my Day Rover, and I noticed the station name boards contained three different names - all on Northern colours:
Nelson
Nelson Station
Nelson Interchange
I wondered why the lack of consistency? Just seemed strange to me.
