Makes me want to crawl barefoot over jagged glass and plead with Jeff Stelling to come back.

He is more wooden than IKEA furniture and has all the charisma of a dead bluebottle. Who on earth decided that he would make a good presenter for this show?

I watched it last week to see what it was like. Mr Stelling was far superior!

I don't watch Countdown, but I thought he was a surprising choice.

He is, at the end of the day, a businessman and not a presenter, regardless of his role as an advisor on the Apprentice!

I've not really caught it. Whiteley was irreplaceable until his untimely death :(

Nick Hewer's presenting experience is zero. Then again look how wooden Rachel Riley (also a presenting newbie) was back in 2009 compared to now.

I assume that all those complaining have been TV presenters - don't you know that you shouldn't complain about how somebody does their job if you haven't done it yourself ;)

I just watched it, I find him quite uncomfortable to watch, for some reason.

I was surprised to find myself cringing a little on his debut, he just seemed very forced, however, he is (slowly) improving, presenting is obviously not his area of expertise, so lets hope he eases further into te job...

His humour is very dry but he is getting more warmer and friendlier. I like his sardonic style, though. Not being impressed by specific words is quite funny for a presenter of a programme dedicated to word play.

I am sure that Mr Hewer will grow into the role. though I haven't seen him in action yet!

Despite his presenting experience, Jeff Stelling was pretty awful for the first few weeks (the first couple of batches of recordings). He gradually eased into the role.

As others have said, Nick Hewer is not a presenter. He was quite wooden in the first couple of shows but he seems to be improving by the day. I'd give him a couple of months of broadcast shows before making a final judgement. This week they've been recording a batch of shows with Dr Phil Hammond and with Gloria Hunniford (the currently showing ones were recorded before Christmas). Let's give Nick chance to settle in.
