I understand RSP accredited the paper roll (PRT) version of Star Mobile last week, but not the CCST version. This is due to unresolved issues with the lovely new Steatite CCST printers which like to spontaneously combust, apparently.

At GWR rollout is 'soon'. Initially around a dozen locations will be converted as they will use the PRT printer only. Later on, after RSP accredition of the CCST printers takes place, other locations will recieve new equipment. Some of these will be a mix of CCST and PRT and others will be CCST only.

The problem with the "solution" is that different operators have gone down different routes with it. The ATW Fujitsu system uses stock that is massive (in my opinion) and could surely have used smaller width stock.

What annoys me more is most of the information printed is fairly pointless.

Exactly, so nothing is unified as a result. It seems to be like different areas which have different implementations of smartcards with differing degrees of use to now also having essentially non-standard paper ticket stock (can we call any of them a standard?)

Received one of these tickets for a journey on Greater Anglia this week.

Dislike them compared to the card type. Only had a 25% success of opening the barriers at Norwich too, which was a right faff as the gates were busy due to the arrival of a London train.

Just had my first one. A Samsung with Fujitsu wireless printer system.

It took three times as long to get a ticket.
The return ticket is 4-6 times larger than what it replaced and isn't 'wallet friendly'
It can't be used in ticket barriers

Is there any way this could be set up to simply send the ticket to my smartphone rather than print half a toilet roll?

Yesterday i came across four different SWT Guards who had these new machines. The tickets print on RSP 9299/100/PEN stock. Unfortunately they dont seem to be very popular. I spoke to all four Guards who all said that they didnt like the new machines and much prefered the Avantix machines.

Looks to be going back in time to the 90s early 00s when conductors issued tickets on paper stock.

I'm sure at the time the move to card stock across all methods of purchase was so they could all operate the increasing numbers of barriers.

It's like in early privatisation when some Intercity TOCs issued airline boarding pass style tickets.
