hi all,

I was in WH Smiths today and noticed there is a new railway magazine that out priced at 1.99 (or there abouts) for issue 1.

It seemed to have a large scale 1/43 model of the mallard at the bottom of it and in issue two you collect another scale 1/43 model

i am hunting online to find the name of it as it has slipped my mind to look into the mag to see what other models you can get with other issues

can anyone help please

OO? wow.

I wouldn't mind getting a few but not currently interested in the steam models. Wish you could see what's coming up.

hi all,

Don't get to used to that price, because it's now accepted by publishers to heavily discount the first issue. Subsequent issues will be I think £7.99 (or is it £8.99?) each ....

(I saw an advert on TV for this earlier, which is why I know about the prices.)

It is published every two weeks, and no modern diesels are listed for at least the first 11 or 12 issues so we are talking at least 6 months and maybe longer.
By that time it will have long since disappeared from newsagents shelves, as they only seem to appear for the first few discounted issues.

The first issue is £2:99, the second is £5:99, and subsequent issues are £8:99.

Just out of interest, how do people rate the model? My Wife picked up my copy and I've noticed that the four small front wheels are not on the rail plinth - they are about 4/5mm's 'up in the air' above the rails, so it is quite noticeable.

I see that there are some small screws through the bottom of the plinth so I may be able to take the loco off and fix the wheels, but it is a bit annoying to have to do this.

Just wondered if this is a common problem if I'm just unlucky!

I had a Flying Scotsman 'N' gauge model from when a similar series was ran a few years back and that seemed to be of much better quality.

It looks rather good from a distance, however if you get up close and get the magnifying glass out you notice that rather than metal the connecting rods and valve gear are made from a rather flimsy plastic. Mine too seems to have a 'hovering' front bogie. It does seem to be fixed rather firmly to the plinth so I would suggest attempting to remove it would be a bad idea. I do stand to be corrected though.
It is a nice model to put in a display case and I will be picking up the future issues. As I am interested to see what comes up (Hoping for a 55 obviously )
The way I understand which models are coming is:

Issue 2: LMS Streamlined Coronation
Issue 3: LNER A3 Pacific Flying Scotsman
Issue 4: Southern 'Schools' Class (At least I thing its a 'Schools' Class on the far right of the picture Southern locos aren't my specialist subject.)

Mrs D is looking forward with beighted breath to issue 3.

Found a few copies of Part 1 where the model wasn't great, but did manage to get one where the model looked good and sat on the tracks, certainly good enough for a static display. Didn't get Part 2 but saw the Coronation model and it looked good. Won't be getting Part 3 as already have a model of Scotsman but looking forward to Part 4: I've heard its Cheltenham and will more than likely get that, and some selected others in future.

I had a good collection of random First Issue models once - a James Bond car, train, plane etc. - I wonder how many of them last the full planned run?

It is the kit ones that always amuse me. Often you can be spending something in the region of £500 and two years to build a kit available for about £80 off the shelf.
