Well. it's been interesting, I started this thread with no particular opinion about the New S&D, but I've heard many different views since. I wanted to provoke some new or different angles on the subject, and to a limited extent that has happened. Please, continue.

I think a few including myself believe that if the is a station in need of renovation with the possiblities of a running line in either direction then that's an achievable goal. If there's room and money to extend as time goes on then even better. This is happening as you know on 2 sites of the S&D which is great to see. But to claim you are going to reinstate an entire line on the back of the peak oil argument is just rediculous. There really does have to be a strong case to evict business's and home owners just because they happen to be on what was 46 years ago a railway. The 2 major places on the route Bath/Bournemouth can still be accessed by rail so what's left that's viable and worth the cost, And is the S&D the answer to our resession is it going to pathe the way to a brighter future or just plunge us further in ecalating debt. I know my spelling isn't great

A new factor in the S&D equation in the last month or two is the future of the Somerset & Dorset Trust at Washford on the West Somerset Railway, since their lease is not to be renewed. Over the next 8 years they'll have to relocate and the ideal solution would be to find somewhere on the S&D. The most interesting prospect would be if they secured a site on the old route close enough to one or other of the existing projects to link up with it.

Exactly my thoughts, was a member for around 10 years of the S&DRT, but eventually felt it wasn't going anywhere anymore, this though, indirectly, could be the best LONG TERM thing to happen to it? As in plenty of time to sort out the future rather than a 'hurried' decision.

Well Ace-inspirational thinking. The old guard S&DRT will have an interesting decision/choice to make. We await with baited breathe!

Been out today to look at the somerset end of the line. Started at Midford where clearing has been taking place, The rear brickwork of the station had at the time of demolition just been knocked over and covered a drain channel behind. This has been cleared by smashing up the bricks, would it have made more sense to have split them for reuse in the rebuilding. It seeems a waste of resources and original material. On the other hand we ventured on to midsomer norton and had a good chat with the guys there, Whilst we were there i had a ponder on how to cross silver street. The trackbed across the road has been taken over by sustrans. An idea i had was not to lower the road and disturb the sevices but to move the alingment across to where the embankment is higher, The height problem is nearest the station where traffic heads down the hill not on the up side. Therefore moving the road over "and there is room" the height isssue is erradicated. I know it's a big cost but so is lowering the road and services. Also the road would not need to be closed while most of the changes are being made. Just a thought
