Is it foreseeable that they might redouble some of the line to allow for more services? There’s quite often compounded delays caused by units waiting at Clifton Down for the single line. 2tph will be harder to manage.
In the past, many of the delays on the Beach line have been compounded (if not caused) by the ridiculously short turnaround times at Temple Meads [I can remember some 1 minute turnarounds showing on the platform PIS - though the WTT presumably was a little more generous / realistic]. Although the turnarounds at TM and Weston still look tight, they're not as bad as that!

I believe (via the private message function) that all parties have agreed on 'Park & Ride'.
It’s what the adjacent facility is known as, so will be clear where it is. I suspect they might get some passengers from housing on the other side of the Portway road.

A planning application has been submitted for New Bermondsey / Surrey Canal Road, as discussed in a thread here.

----------

Update Tuesday 16 November:

I have added notes on the threads for Reston and Soham stations (links in #1).

Soham gives a very good impression of being open for business from 0649 on Monday 13 December. It features in their new timetable booklet and in RTT (RealTime Trains).
Reston less so, only having timings against the WTT (Working TimeTable) column rather than the public GBTT (Great Britain TimeTable) column.

Regarding Portway Park & Ride, RTT again only shows times in the WTT column as 'Service stop unadvertised' - as it has for a while.

Work has started at Marsh Barton, Exeter. There's also Okehampton of course but it's not a new station and the reopening is covered elsewhere. I didn't know that Charfield was being looked at again.

However, Marsh Barton work started in earnest back in April and is already included on the calendar in post #1, it also has its own dedicated thread linked from there.

Torquay Edginswell is back in the news, although not new as I thought this had already been settled.

Torquay getting third train station after funding secured - Devon Live

Of course the previous approved plans of a station with ramps has long expired. New plans that incorporate lifts instead have still not been put forward. 2023 is the estimated opening date.
I was struggling to decide if this was new news or regurgitated. I guess it is the £3m coming from the Towns Fund that they are talking about. I already have Edginswell down as having funding approved under Round Three of the New Stations Fund but previously had no figure for the approved amount. Now there is stated: £13.1m total, £7.8 from New Stations Fund, £3m from Towns Fund, £2.3m balance from?

On 26 November 2020, the Department for Transport confirmed that three railway stations had been successful for funding to support their construction as part of an enlarged £32m fund. The successful stations are to be completed within CP6 with a deadline for completion by April 2024.
The three were:
  • Edginswell – Torquay
  • Thanet Parkway – Kent
  • St Clears – Wales
For timescale I previously had:
Planning permission was approved by Torbay Council in November 2016 and work is expected to start in Spring 2022 costing a total of £13million.

These are the 2016 plans with ramps that expired November 2019. Unable to raise the money. Lifts are now the choice nowadays for new build and renovations ie Dawlish and Torquay.

Wait, ramps are more expensive than lifts? Surely its the other way round- no mechanical parts, so less maitenance?
They could not raise the 9m for the whole station in 2016. Ramps would be a skateboarders paradise.
This was how the cost of Edginswell were 12 months ago.
The cost is £13m up from £9m in 2016. £7.8m coming from government, £1m from the £22m awarded to TORQUAY and Torbay Council will have to borrow £4.2m for the rest.

It looks like £3 million coming from the £22m so the council still has to borrow money, £2m+.

Paignton has it's own grant of government money for improvements. The station need a complete rebuild but GWR were expected to pay for that.

Update 29 November.

Reston has been moved into 2022. The electronic National Rail timetable (e-NRT) states the following (their capitals, I am not shouting ): RESTON STATION IS DUE TO OPEN LATER IN 2022 WHEN THIS TABLE WILL BE RE-ISSUED. The table in question is Table 43.

Parkway Portway Park & Ride has been moved into '2023 and beyond (less certainty)' as there appears to be no progress on site, and no announcement of a revised date that I have seen. The station is not shown in Table 134 of the e-NRT.

Soham is go go go! Table 12 of the e-NRT.

work has begun on Willenhall station - source BBC news

Work starts on new Willenhall station in £54m project - BBC News

Work has started on a new railway station as part of a project to link Walsall and Wolverhampton directly by passenger train for the first time in more than half a century.
Workers are clearing land where the platform for Willenhall station will be built. It is set to be ready in 2023.
The £54m project will also see a station built at Darlaston on a line currently used for freight.
West Midlands mayor Andy Street said it would be a key transport link for jobs.
"Not only will these stations provide a genuine public transport alternative to the car, but they will also help connect local people to the high quality jobs and opportunities being created across the wider region," he said.
Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), which is leading the project, says when Willenhall station opens, it will allow people to travel to either Walsall or Wolverhampton in eight minutes, and Birmingham New Street in 25 minutes.

Adrian Andrew, deputy leader of Walsall Council, said: "This has been talked about for decades, so it is great to see some action on site - we are now entering the final stages of restoring rail service to Willenhall."
He said it represented "huge investment" in the two areas and could be a catalyst for further improvements.
Details of government funding towards the project were reported in February.

“part of a project to link Walsall and Wolverhampton directly by passenger train for the first time in more than half a century.“

Wasn’t there an hourly direct train up until 2008?

It's modern journalism, don't expect them to delve any further than 'cut and paste'. I guess they mean the two new stations which replace those closed in 1965.

Soham opened today. Table at #1 updated.

First time I've seen the railway take on The Wizard of Oz, with a yellow brick road (continuous tactile pavings) from the station entrance, along the platform and into the shelter. View the video on Twitter to see what I mean. Twitter video

Does that suggest someone knows something….?
Not necessarily - It can be very difficult to get things into the various systems quickly, so it's easier to put the codes into the system now and then they can sit there for however long rather than either fudge it at the last minute or potentially delay opening because the computers haven't been set up.

Work is now underway to build the new East Linton station.

Following successful completion of preparatory work on the site, engineers building the new £15m station are about to begin piling to create the foundations for the new station platforms.

It is the first phase of construction activity which will culminate in a station opening in the East Lothian village for the first time in more than half a century.

The project will see the creation of a two-platform station on the East Coast mainline, with 125 car parking spaces. The station itself will be fully accessible with lifts and a footbridge connecting both platforms with access for pedestrians and cyclists.

Planned to be complete in 2023, the new station will offer a connection into Edinburgh Waverley for those commuting into the capital. It will support economic growth by providing a new public transport link and enabling residents from the area to access an expanded range of employment and leisure options.
