As per the previous post, the status of East Linton has been updated to 'under construction' and advanced to 2023 (was by 2024).

Also updated Winslow to 'under construction' rather than just referring to the overall route works.

March has been suggested for the first trains to serve Reston.
https://www.restonscotland.com/ Railway Station update - hopefully looking for a March opening, with an official opening in June - watch out for updates on this one!

I was just wondering if Winslow could be almost completely built before the track is laid through there. That would be relatively unusual, I think?

With all the usual provisos about RTT taking data 'as is' and future variations and cancellations to the data, Reston station appears to have a service from Sunday 15 May.

Geoff Marshall has made a recent video about Thanet Parkway. It gives details of how the platforms have been constructed on long piles through the embankment, and some info about how level crossings will be upgraded to allow line speed increases in the area to deal with the time to call.

This is an update for Edginswell dropping the opening back a year.

The financial cost of delivering the station is £13.1 million using £3 million of Town Deal funds. This will be matched with:

  • Council funds
  • Section 106 contributions
  • Local Transport Capital Funds
  • New Stations Funds (£7.8 million received in November 2020)
  • We aim to submit planning in the Summer of 2022
  • Construction should start in the Summer of 2023
  • The new station will be open and running by the end of 2024

All Northumberland Line stations have been granted permission. Some vegetation clearance has been happening this week on the Ashington site.

All Northumberland Line stations now approved
02 Mar 2022

The final new station for the Northumberland Line rail scheme has been given the go-ahead.

Planners have given the green light for construction of a new station at Newsham in Blyth – meaning all six new stations now granted approval for the project.

The station, on land south of the A1061 South Newsham Road, will include two platforms, pedestrian lifts, road junction improvements and parking for buses, cars, electric vehicles, motorcycles, cycles, and taxis.

There’ll also be a range of lighting and landscaping improvements.

The final planning approval comes ahead of construction work which is due to get underway this summer.

The whole scheme, which will deliver 18 miles of upgraded track, access improvements and new signal locations, is expected to deliver economic benefits of up to £470m and is due to be open in December 2023.

The half hourly service between Newcastle and Ashington will have an anticipated journey time between Blyth and Newcastle of around 25 minutes.

Northumberland Line Programme Delivery Director Neil Blagburn said: “This is another major milestone for the project and paves the way for the main construction work to start in the coming months.

“Work to replace the track started on the line last year and other preparations, such as clearing vegetation and mining remediation are getting underway on parts of the line ahead of the main construction starting on this transformational project - which will bring about new opportunities for work, education and leisure in this part of the county and the wider region.”

Work has started on White Rose Station. The results of the consultation and ORR opinion on the closure of Cottingley are "due" (it doesn't say that in the story - I just know that they are "due").

Thanks for that.

The footnote to the press release mentions Cottingley.

As an aside, the price has increased from £24.2m to £26.5m and I guess it will no longer be opening in late 2022!

Full text of article:
Full steam ahead for Leeds’ £26.5m new White Rose Station

Construction work has started on Leeds’ £26.5 million new White Rose Rail Station delivered in partnership by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Leeds City Council, Munroe K, Network Rail and the Department for Transport.

The rail station between Morley and Cotttingley on the Transpennine route will make it easier to walk, cycle and use public transport, connecting more people with job, training, education and leisure opportunities.

The announcement – made during MIPIM, the international property investment and economic development expo – is just one example of the region’s commitment to transport investment that supports economic growth.

Alongside a fully accessible station with cycle storage next to the White Rose Office Park, the scheme also includes better walking and cycling routes between Cottingley, Churwell and Millshaw, as well as the White Rose Shopping Centre and the bus interchange.*

Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, said:

“Growing our economy is a key priority, but we are very clear that growth need to benefit everyone in our region.

“To achieve this, we need a reliable and efficient transport system, which is why I am pleased to see work start on our new, fully accessible rail station at White Rose.

“In my manifesto, I committed to improving public transport, connecting more people with opportunities and helping tackle the climate emergency on our way to becoming a net zero carbon economy by 2038. The White Rose Rail Station will help us do all of these things.”

Cllr Kim Groves, the West Yorkshire Combined Authority Transport Committee Lead Member for Public Transport, said:

“White Rose Rail Station will bring new opportunities for local communities, improving transport links and acting as a catalyst for regeneration, including housing and jobs.

“It is more important than ever that we continue to invest in a modern, accessible transport network, which supports economic growth by connecting more people with jobs, training and education.”

Leeds City Council executive board member for infrastructure and climate, Cllr Helen Hayden, said:

“It is fantastic news that we’re starting to build the new White Rose Railway Station in Leeds. It will enable better connections, making it easier for people to access jobs, education, training and leisure while supporting travel in the local area. It will also underline the council’s commitment to tackling the climate emergency and delivering the Connecting Leeds transport ambition of being a city where you don’t need to own a car.”

David Aspin, Founder & CEO of Munroe K, said:

“To see work begin on site of the new White Rose Railway Station is extremely exciting. It’s the culmination of many, many hours of hard work from all of our partners from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Leeds City Council, Network Rail and Spencer. The new station will benefit not only employees on the White Rose Park, but those in our surrounding communities too, through improved accessibility, safe well-lit walkways, as well as upgraded cycle and walking routes.”

Nigel Foster, Director of Fore Consulting, said:

“The new White Rose Railway Station is testament to how a shared vision between the private and public sector can become reality. It will no doubt provide significant positive transformational impact for the local community.”

Paul McKeown, Investment Director for Network Rail’s Eastern Region, said:

“As more people return to the railway, it’s essential that we continue to support schemes that connect people to new places and open up opportunities for work and leisure.

“It’s brilliant to see construction work starting on the new White Rose station and I’m looking forward to seeing the plans that we’ve helped to develop come to life.”

The scheme, which is being led by the Combined Authority and Munroe K, will receive money from the Leeds City Region Transforming Cities Fund, the Leeds Public Transport Investment Programme and £5 million from the Department for Transport’s New Stations Fund, as well as contributions from Munroe K.

Construction work is expected to continue into early 2023.

* A consultation regarding the future of Cottingley Rail Station took place between July and October 2021. The consultation sought people’s views on the proposed closure of Cottingley Rail Station as it will not be possible to maintain the same level of service at both Cottingley and White Rose because they are too close together. A report on the consultation, alongside other documentation, will be published on the Combined Authority’s Your Voice website shortly. Find out more information at yourvoice.westyorks-ca.gov.uk/cottingley.

A number of progress updates to the table at #1
Portway Park & Ride: under construction
Headbolt Lane: under construction
White Rose: under construction, moved to 2023
Levenmouth: route works commenced
Cameron Bridge: route works commenced
Blyth Bebside: planning permission granted
Newsham: planning permission granted

I was driving past today and, not having appreciated that work had started, was surprised to see that quite a few piles have already been put in the embankment, with the land to the west of the site next to Churwell Hill forming a works compound.
Thought at first the piles were for electrification masts till the penny dropped.

It’s it the case that some of the piling for electrification was done a few months back, specifically in advance of the station construction starting?

15 Mya would be the start of the new timetable, and the stops are all unadvertised so I'd suggest it's unlikely to open in May but quite likely to open between then and December (the next timetable change date)
A lot of work still to be done at marsh Barton.

Reading Green Park has had 'service stop unadvertised' for quite a while now. It doesn't seem to indicate anything is necessarily imminent, just that the timetable planners are on the ball. When the Heraus fences disappear, and a team of people with clipboards and tape measures jump off a train, scrutinising everything, then it's time to start getting excited.

This time-lapse video from Devon County Council shows the station footbridge/cycle bridge being installed. It was posted on 11 March and says "Opening Winter 2022". But there is clearly a lot of work left to be done.

Sorry, cant say. Just caught a short glimpse as I was driving past. Not expecting to see anything so not paying attention.

With the imminent arrival of Reston on the scene, it occurs to me that Scotrail will operate both Reston and Renton. With the similarity in names, will there be some qualifier to make it obvious to which a ticket is valid? For example, the two Hopes have the county to distinguish them, Swindon has (Wilts) to distinguish from either Swinton, etc. Reston (Borders) maybe?

Should Ashley Down station in Bristol feature in this calendar?
Details at https://travelwest.info/projects/ashley-down-station

The prior approval process shows it as 'pending consideration' at https://pa.bristol.gov.uk/online-ap...ils.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=QVERYKDNMMN00
It is part of the Henbury Spur group of stations: Ashbury Down, Henbury, North Filton. There was discussion about them commencing at post 76 in this thread.

Although Ashley Down is on the main line, there are no suggestions as to how it could be served, I recall there was a discussion about this recently somewhere on the forum.

Regarding inclusion in the list, I refer you to paragraphs two to five in post 1.

Presumably the Henbury services will stop and at least the aspired-to 2nd train per hour to Yate (and beyond?), if not the existing one. Being on the main line it can of course go ahead independently of the Henbury spur.

I’m sure this is correct since it also applies to Portishead! This is despite Bristol being south of Watford!
The problem is, being from the Black and White TV era, there are so many proposals I can remember which got talked about, quite seriously, but never quite made it for one reason or another. Portishead is one, the re-opening of the Sutton Park line, the full Ivanhoe re-opening being three off the top of my head.

Randomly I have pulled out the 1996 Baker Rail Atlas: Portishead is proposed Avon Metro, Derby to Leicester (Ivanhoe) is 'due to open in 1997/98'. Glad I didn't put them in the table at post 1.

Update 23 May:
Reston - opened

Tempted to tempt fate and do the Crossrail ones in advance, but I shall wait until tomorrow.
