Hi all,

Well I am new to all this and have only recently stumbled across BVE on the internet. Don’t know how I came across it but glad I did. I have only been using it for a week and already I am hooked on it. Just wanted to get on this forum and see how things work in a bit more detail.

I am more familiar with a plane cockpit as have been a very keen flight simulator pilot for the past 10 years. Giving it a rest but keeping up the practise and now it seems that I have something else to learn and perfect!

I have downloaded some of the London underground routes and also the North West Midlands from Trainsimcentral. Have been learning the routes and they are very good and it is amazing what you guys that develop the routes can do! Will be looking forward to any new releases of any NWM or other routes.

Just wanted to ask a few questions as am new to this and have had a look on the forum and can’t seem to find any answers but apologise if I ask stupid things.

1) I Particular like the routes on NWM where you can change end and go back down the route you have just driven. From what I can see this is only on routes to Blackwood? Can you go the other way once you reach Hobbs Cross or Hammerwich (or any stations that are your destination)?

2) Can anyone else recommend any other routes like this or real word routes that have just as many combinations like this?

3) I have read a couple of the driver guides on the net etc. and have familiarised myself with the controls and seem to be OK with pressing the insert button once going over a AWS marker. For some reason it starts to flash before I get to some places. Does this mean I am going to fast or is there some other button that I should be pressing?

4) I come from Kent and am keen to know if their are any routes based in the South of England (e.g. Kent, Sussex, Hampshire) available that start somewhere and then travel to London or vv?

Although I am new to the train simulator world and BVE I have some knowledge of how these things work as have been an advanced user of flight sim and associated programming.

Any useful tips or www recommendations would also be great as am keen to learn more and add this to list of sims!

Grateful for any help and advice you guys pass on.

Thanks

Nick

Thanks for the posts!

Can anyone tell me that the NWM has turnback feature on all its routes or just some of the routes. I have found routes that go via Blackbrook and have found that you can change ends. Can you turn back or change ends with other routes (e.g. when you get to Hammwich or Hobbs Cross).

Thanks for all the info and any other points can help with!

1. The reason only the Blackbrook branch has a turn-back feature and not any of the mainlines into Hammerwich is that it is a fairly short branch. When the author wants to make a line drivable in the reverse direction, they have to essentially re-code the line from scratch in the opposite direction. You also have the added trouble of trying to remember to get all the objects in the same position and, in some cases, edit objects to make them useable for viewing from different directions. I hope that makes sense!

2. The Network West Midlands route has to be one of the biggest in terms of number of diagrams for you to drive. Other BVE4 routes that I'd recommend (in no particular order) are Birmingham Cross City South, Tyne Valley, Barrow to Carlisle, Edinburgh to Aberdeen, Clarendon and the Sandymill Loop. Lots of great tube routes can be downloaded from Train Sim Central, BVE Routes & Trains and BVE Route Junction.

-----

3. There are TPWS grids before all signals and at some speed limit signs. If you are exceeding 30mph on the approach to a red signal or the speed limit at the speed limit sign then the brakes will be applied automatically. To reset them, simply push the Insert button and the flashing red light will become a steady red light. After one minute it will go out and you can continue driving.

4. Ashford to Victoria - This route is currently only available as far as St Mary Cray however images of the Vicoria extention can be found here.

Southern Electric v2 - This is designed for BVE2 but is well scened and has a lot of diagrams, some up to an hour.

Charing X - Gillingham - This is semi-fictional which means it is only based on the real route. Designed for BVE2 but BVE4 diagrams are available here.

Island Line - A small section of the Island Line between the three stations in Ryde. Designed for BVE2.

Moorgate - Drayton Park Another fairly old BVE2 route but is third rail. Apart from Drayton Park, the route is in tunnel.

More importantly, welcome to the forum!

Thanks for your message and all the info.

Perfectly clear now thanks for that. Was not aware that it was as hard as you say to make a route work in the opposite direction, perfectly understandable though!

Thanks for all the links and advice as well!
