Could this be the cheapest tram ever made?
Amazing Pallet Skate on Tram Rails

The space between the tram tracks in Bratislava is 435 mm narrower than the gauge of tracks in Prague or Pilsen (1435 mm). The wooden europallet, a basic feature of any warehouse or storage hall, with its standartized 1200x800 mm dimensions, when modified can only run on the tracks in Bratislava.

(Yes, I realise that doing this is neither safe, smart nor practical as a reliable method of transportation)

Think Manchester Metrolink are missing a trick here......it's more eco friendly than their trams and cheaper to run. :)

Saw this the other day when it got into the front page of Digg.

A rather smart project - even if a tad dangerous! Impressive how well it works, even when traversing the points and crossover.

Anyone know the legality of this? Afterall the tram rails are in a public highway?

I'd be a bit worried about using that over points.

Is this what they ended up with in Edinburgh after spending all that money?
