Hello , I'm going to be travelling back to University using the Grand Central Service from Bradford to King's Cross. My dad works for Northern and as such I have a TOC Priv Card. I was wondering if this free travel agreement between Northern and Grand Central still stood and how I would get past the Ticket Gates at King's Cross without a ticket?

Any help appreciated.

Last I heard from someone I know who works for Northern, they could travel on GC services as part of the Priv arrangements.

My initial thought as to how you would get past the barriers would be to show the Priv card to the barrier staff (if they are using the barriers, a member of staff has to be present to resolve any problems) to allowed through.

I'm sure someone with greater knowledge of the Prov cards will be able to advise further on this though :)

You can buy on board GC at King's Cross, so there shouldn't be a problem getting past the barrier (even if you don't need to buy a ticket on board, if that makes sense).

According to HR (travel facilities) at Northern, who I asked a few weeks back, it is still in place, and I used GC without issue a week or two back. However there has not been an official announcement that it is continuing.

Yes, you just need to say you are travelling on Grand Central and they should let you through. I've done it on a number of occasions.

AFAIK it is several staff whom I know and myself are travelling on it next Saturday from Halifax to Kings X

I'd actually heard that it had ended - if you are Northern I recommend you speak to your HR contact.

However, I suggest you speak to the GC guard on the day and take your ID, as they are usually very accommodating for other railway staff.

My info from my contact at Northern may be wrong.

Well me and several staff from Northern have booked accomodation in London and travelling on the GC on Saturday as we have been told that the free travel for Northern is on Grand Central still applies, but as said I think they will take ID anyway

Certainly was valid as of about a fortnight ago and I've heard no information to the contrary.
