The 243 units was a part of the original fleet plan, which has changed since 2016.

I've not been keeping track of the 319s to be honest, so it's possible there's more which have been refurbished. However, they're all going off lease, with 319365 the second to leave the fleet.
What do you mean by the 243 was a part of the original plan? Are you on about all 26 319s staying with Northern was part of the original plan? Something else?

243 units were going to be refurbished as part of the original fleet plan.

One side-effect of the slow but sure removal of Pacers (including 144s being sent North to Heaton) is an uplift in quality on the Penistone line. Currently on board 158845 heading to Huddersfield, and passed another refurbished 158 at Shepley. 845 still has the sackcloth seat covers for now, but looks fresh and clean apart from that.

Interestingly I have 150 109 as going to Doncaster on 28th Sept so fitting the bathroom, other PRM mods and possibly base paint coat took 4 weeks.
The first 2 paths above NH to Donc have run/running but the NH Crewe ones appear not.
Correction both NH to from Crewe have run abeit late.

Don't get your hopes up; I understand the reason is an attempt to reduce wheel flats on the 14x fleet on the Penistone line by substituting 158s.

Certainly makes sense, they did this last year but limited to two units (turning at Barnsley) instead of three - this year of course they've recently had 158s freed up from the Calder Valley.

The long-term plan for the route is (or at least was) 150s including 3-car formations, so I know the 158s are temporary... still, it'll be good while it lasts!

Thanks, does anyone know if the 9 319s that have already had the interior refurbishment are being kept? As currently my list of units being refurbished is as follows

78 Class 150s
7 Class 155s
47 Class 156s
53 Class 158s
16 Class 170s
17 Class 323s and finally
16 Class 333s make 234 units.
Assuming that those 9 319s are staying and the rest of them leave then that takes us to the full list of the 243 units promised. (I see this as the most likely option). Otherwise all 27 319s will leave Northern (i've included the 3 units that are in the thameslink livery too) and that will leave us 9 units short to make up the 243 units promised
add another 5 class 150's when they arrive from GWR

So I take it that none of the 319s are staying at all then
Nope, will be going (probably by sometime in 2021), with the 331s coming online and the WM 323s coming up the 319s will go back to Porterbrook

ATM, no. The 769's are staying though.

Thanks for the information. Like @Goldfish62 I have my doubts that the 769s will ever come into service and I think they'll be silently scrapped (which they might have been already) and I bet Northern will be still promising that the 769s are going to enter service in 2021 and they'll just be scarpped I just think theres no more life in the FLEX project (at least for Northern)
That's if they even arrive in the first place!

If all 27 319s are going instead of just 18 leaving then whats going to be the 9 units to make up the 243 units promised for refurbishment

Either way I don't think the 323s from WMT will make up the initial 243 units so im still 9 units off although @4REP said that there would be 5 class 150s tranferring over next year so they'll likely be part of the initial 243
add another 5 class 150's when they arrive from GWR

Even then im still 4 units short so what are the 4 units im missing

only 17 sets from WMT, going to be enough 331s to make up the numbers.
Presumably the number of units will be like for like, rather than the number of carriages? That's quite a capacity reduction with respect to the 319s.

And would nine fewer 323s put paid to any whimsical prospect of them running in pairs on busy services?

Remember Arriva's initial plan, per the franchise agreement, was for all the original 17 Northern 323s to go off lease, and to return 5 of the 32 319s once all the 331s were in service. So in place of 27x319s (108x20m carriages) Northern will have 34x323s (117x23m carriages) plus 8x769s (32x20m carriages). In total 42 units/125 carriages instead of 27 units/108 carriages.

There should be plenty of scope for doubling up the 331/0s and/or 323s into 6-car formations.
