Thanks James :)

The livery on the ED is Gatwick Express livery, like on non-advertising liveried 460s and a few 442s like this except there's no swoosh bits on the ends like there is on 442s.

Updated my site with a few shots taken today at Crowhurst, Battle, Hove and Preston Park and featuring 37259/606 on 1Q14 Hither Green-Lovers Walk SERCO and 66706/717 on 6G30 Lovers Walk-Eastleigh Scrap Train

I suppose you could call the 442s "Sussex Electrics" now instead of "Wesses Electrics", well only the seventeen units destined for Gatwick Express use . Additionally, maybe the 442's designation 5-WES will be changed to 5-SUS.

The 460s do have Gatwick Express branding, as does the first refurbished Gatwick Express 442 unit, see here for a photo. Compare 442414's GA livery with 442417's GA livery. You should notice 442417 has no branding, dark blue solebar area and a red/grey roof whereas 442414 has branding, a grey solebar area and it has a white roof.

Thanks James :)

Updated my site with a few shots from today, featuring;

BTW the 1001 unit is to be operated by West Coast Railways. A wormen from the Remembrance line gave me a leaflet about it and Save the Harbour one

I was at Dollands Moor shortly after I left Folkestone Harbour. 60041 is no longer based at Dollands Moor, although 60056 has come down. When we were at Folkestone Harbour, I saw a gen message on my phone saying that it had gone through Ashford at 13:10 in a Dollands Moor-Wembley Enterprise hauled by a 66. The three 92s I photted in Dollands Moor were the only locos visable from the road bridge.

If your out in the Ashford area tomorrow, you may see 60056 on a freight working, athough I doubt it. Will probably sit in Dollands Moor all day.

I did say West Coast Railways may be the operator of 1001 on 21st Dec :D

Ah so we have a new 60 based at Dollands for now then:D I am at Charing tomorrow for the 37's Test Train So fingers crossed I get the tug, what sort of speeds do they go at though Charing?

92's are good locos 8-) But are they are most powerfull Locomotives in the UK dont include the Channel tunnel train they dont count.

Yeah you sure did say West Coast would do it.

Sadly, we don't have a new 60 based at Dollands Moor, as 60056 is now at Bescot!

Non-stop trains usually travel quite fast through Charing, not sure what speeds, but this is probably useless to you now

I do believe they are the most powerful locomotives in the UK.

Thanks Craig. :)

Was just about to plug that shot

They won't ever become sussex electrics, the reason for that is because they were built out of wessex slam door units; meaning that they have served there time well on the SWML.

You called called 444s ''Wessex Desiros'' but you don't.

60041 got fixed and ended up in Bescot. 60056 coming down to DM had nothing to do with 041. IIRC, a few months ago, a 60 came down, stayed a day or two, then went off again and ended up in Bescot! 60041/049/052 (all EWS Red/Gold) have been the only 60s that have stuck around for some time. 60013 came down in January for a week or two, as did 60044 in February and 60082 in May/June. 60077 also came down here, on March 22nd. It worked the down steel (Doncaster-Dollands Moor) and then later in the day, worked the up steel (Dollands Moor-???). Wonder if we'll get another Tug down here?

Did the 37s thrash through Charing, or did they just coast through?

Some good shots there James, quite like your first shot, which also shows the light rust on the rails

As usual, Thanks :)

Oh right so no 60 based but is there a 66? When coming back from Ashford I went passed Dollands Moor there was a 66 near the sheds & 2x 92's apart from that It was dead :o At charing I could hear them nice and loud but when they were at the station they were just going fast no thrash at all but they did at Ashford :razz:8-)

Thanks year you could see the light rust on the rails this time.

They probably will become known as Sussex Electrics to Brighton based drivers. I've already heard a couple refer to them as such. Not much point calling the seventeen 442s allocated to Southern "Wessex Electrics" when they won't be going through Wessex Land anymore.

IIRC, the only parts that came from Slam Door units, were traction motors and other electrical equipment, which came from 4-REPs/4-TCs, which had to be withdrawn before their replacements (the class 442s) could take over.

Indeed, no 60, although another may come down. Dollands Moor gets 66s fown there every week, none visable on my visit.

I thought they would just coast through Charing. They would probably thrash through going up towards Lenham. They thrashed nicely through Lenham, as they always do.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that they are Capitalstars. Still part of the Electrostar family though.

Updated my site with a couple of shots of 35028 Clan Line working a Kent VSOE Circular, seen at Rainham (Kent) and Sturry.

Clan Line sure is a nice loco, but I prefer it to Tangmere. Nothing wrong with Tangmere though.

Ah so you have a cracked camera screen too. Josh had that problem at the end of last year with his old camera.

I did get a shot of 67025. There was too much shadow coming off the rear so I didn't upload it onto my site.

Thanks Craig. Would've gone further down the paltform but there were too many shadows covering the tracks. The London end of Rainham seemed the better place to get the whole train in sun with shadows.

Hi Craig,

Well Tangmere is a lighter verison of the Merchant Navy with Unrebuilts & rebuilts , But I prefer the WC/BofB classes 8-) Yeah Josh told me that happened to him its just annoying it had to happen now and its not the end of the year :-x<(I was going to London on the 13 december there is at least three steam trains about two of them at VIC which are 34067 & 35028 :D I still go but watch them instead & be a trainspotter

Here is my last shots of 2008 then http://james-bartlett.fotopic.net/c1613086.html please forgive the Clan Line shots they were taking with a cracked sceen and I cant see what I was taking. I just add early pictures of the year now.

Tangmere and the WCs/BofB are indeed lighter versions of the Merchant Navys, which is why they call them light pacifics, as I'm sure you know.

I'm considering a visit to London on 13th Dec for the three steam tours, not sure yet though. If you do go, still take your camera and try and get what shots you can, especially if you go somewhere like Victoria where the locos will by stationary.

Nice shot at Rainham Craig :)

Thanks Calum
