I think the Bats are good. I like most of the bands that are grouped under the heading "Dunedin sound".

I've spent time today exploring some 80s American college rock bands.

Dumptruck - For the Country (1987)
Salem 66 - Frequency and Urgency (1987)
Blake Babies - Earwig (1988).

Earwig was the pick of the bunch, a brisk mix of post-punk and jangle. Actually, there was also a good cover of Loose by The Stooges, which I guess can be termed proto-punk.

Also got a chance to explore the debut solo albums from each of Mark Eitzel and David Bazan, both being stalwarts of the Slowcore genre.

Last night/this morning exploring some albums made by Slowcore band leaders who went on to create solo albums:

Mark Eitzel - 60 Water Silver Lining (1996)
David Bazan - Curse Your Branches (2009)
Sun Kil Moon (i.e., Mark Kozelek from Red House Painters) - Tiny Cities (2005).

All good. The Eitzel album possibly the most interesting as it is more jazz/folk influenced compared to his American Music Club era material.
