Foo Fighters - Wasting Light (2011)

I was much an MTV kid growing up, and heard the occasional Foo track now and then when they decided to go for more rock than pop. It was at about this time when they dropped their seventh album Wasting Light, and I vividly remember thinking "wow, this is good". And after a re-listen... I agree with teenage me, it's a solid album from start to finish.

Sat here crying for a man I never knew but one I knew so well.

When Shane wrote, he wrote for all of us because we had no voice, or because no-one was listening. He spoke for the Irish diaspora in whatever part of the world we ended up. And he wrote of more than that, of course, of the universal human condition - the hopes and dreams we all possess whoever we are. Go well in heaven Shane. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal.

The Storm - "I Want You Back"

annd "You're Goona Miss Me"

One of several bands who used the name "Storm", this one featured Gregg Rolie, who formerly sang with the bands Santana and Journey.

and a completely different, but also pretty good "The Storm" with "Leave Well Enough Alone"

(Singer Kristina Nichols)

Earth and Fire - "Love Quiver"

and "Memories"

(Dutch prog rock. Largely ignored by UK media, singer Jerney Kaagman was probably one of the best female rock singers of the 1970s.)

"Joy To The World".
Same title - different songs. First an instrumental by Steve Morse

and the song by Three Dog Night:

and "Winter", a lesser known classic by the Rolling Stones
