I notice that today's (Monday 3 June) 0806 Gatwick Express (GX) from Brighton to London Victotia (1W11) is formed of 8 coaches. In the previous timetable it was formed of 12. Does anyone know if this is a permanent change, please?
Also, are any other GX services booked to be formed of 12 carriages? Many thanks

A quick glance at the GTR’s website suggests every GX diagram is 8 coaches

Presumably this is done to free 387s for use on the Coastway, as the full cascade of 387s from Great Northern to Southern isn’t ready yet

I assume PGAT got the info from the Live departure boards on the Southern Website. Looking now (10.45) shows everything between Gatwick Airport and London Victoria is 8 carriages (both Southern & Gatwick Express) for the next two hours.

The 0736 Brighton to Victoria was shown as being short-formed to 8-cars on the service disruptions page this morning, so it looks like that one will still be booked 12-cars

I note that the last Gatwick Express of the day (2259 London Victoria to Brighton) is formed of only 4 carriages.

With the carriages now on the coast, do the departure boards state Southern only tickets are a valid on them?

It looks like the 0736 Brighton to Victoria is running as 12 coaches and the train after that is 10

Took an opportunistic run on the 10.39 from Brighton, up to the airport, which was indeed formed of the 377/6s.

Notwithstanding the Southern carriages, GatEx ticketing rules were very much being broadcast and, presumably, enforced north of the airport.

Seeing Southern stock being used on the Gatwick Express I must say is quite funny.
Wonder if this will cause some confusion for users of the service, especially tourists - paid for GX and see an SN train pull in.

Side question will the PIS show 'Welcome onboard GX service to...' or will it still show/say SN?

Are the seats any better? Could this be viewed as an improvement?

Green seats compared to red seats are the only real difference, dont even think there are any more or fewer luggage racks, although i'm sure someone will correct me if it is the case

And just 1 additional carriage for 377/6

Surely its time the service was rebranded the "Brighton Express". Gatwick is just an intermediate stop.

When GatEx 387s are used on Southern services (or at least were, when I travelled on them), it was "Welcome on board the... service to Ore". I imagine it would be the same the other way around.

2 Gatwick Express diagrams are 12 cars today
Should really be all (5?) diagrams on a summer Saturday. Given the desire of Londoners to get down to Brighton at this time of year, all trains between the two really should be maximum length.
