Can someone please explain where my train was going tonight, or at least half of it? Besides saying Foxton instead of Cambridge (but we all know why that is), the rear 4 coaches were going to LTCEADL.

Another wonderful example of the ATOS information system?

Shame I didn't stay on to see what happened at Royston!

That would make sense if the train divides at Letchworth as the rear unit would go into the arrival/departure line sidings but this train divides at Royston (though the unit could still go into the main area of Letchworth sidings on the return)

Yes, to the east of Letchworth station towards Baldock. The Letters are a unique abbreviation as are used for many stations and most passing points; Letchworth station being LTCE.

Definitely something to show to passengers!

I also wonder why there was no announcement at the platform or the train (automated or from the driver) to say it was even splitting at all!

Presumably once the Villages have had their platforms lengthened to 8-car, these services will cease to split at Letchworth/Royston? I hope so anyway.

I presume there would just have been blank spaces. "Travel in the rear 4 coaches for..................."

(Reminds me of the time I saw that pic of the Welwyn Garden City departures board showing a train leaving from platform "UFL" (Up Fast Line - with no platform"!*

*or it may have been the Down Fast Line... feel free to correct and provide said image!

The LTCEADL shouldnt have been showing, that is a TIPLOC location and a balls up on the upload of the schedule.

This reminds me of when I caught the Cleethorpes-Barton service a few years ago and the CIS showed a level crossing on the list of calling points. The train did actually stop there to enter the next token section, but obviously not for passengers to alight!

The stops, whilst in the schedule, have to be supressed so they don't get uploaded. Obviously someone didn't add it.

What a shame...it would make a really good one to solve in the quiz section:D:D

Will there be a three-letter code for it

There's a three-letter code for Alton Towers, so why not?

You were lucky...I don't think our service had a CIS on at all...if we did I don;t recall it working! I do recall the LC where the token exchange takes place though!

Would love to hear an automated announcement announce the code...wonder if it'd sound surprised :D

Well, they just nicked that from Arriva Trains Wales :P

I joined that train at Potters Bar yesterday (16:47).
looks like a problem with the CIS at kings Cross as it looked correct at Potters Bar & the other stops as far as I could see.
the 17:35 arrival time shown is interesting - the train should leave Letchworth at 17:24 & the rear unit is usually in Letchworth sidings by 17:30 so the usual padding for terminating services has been added!

We did have the situation shortly after they changed the name on the old CIS from Letchworth to Letchworth Garden City where a train was announced at something like:
"Letchworth Garden City. This is Letchworth Garden City the train at Plaftorm 2 is for Letchworth calling at Letchworth only." so the CIS had obviously thought they were 2 different stations!

Haha yes, I assume it is a problem with these new 'fancy' screens not interpreting calling points not to read out or something! *scratches chin to try and work it out*
Its a pretty poor show as its picking up a non-passenger train not just an extra tiploc, there is no reason for the association to be in public systems at all. As its obviously a repeat issue you'd have thought someone at FCC might have bothered to do something about it by now...

I put it on the forum, with the photo from causton, and they came back to ask where the picture was taken.

I guess they couldn't read the display and work it out from the stopping pattern! Maybe those people on the forum don't use the network very often.

"Hmm, platform 11.. first stop Finsbury Park.. a train to Foxton. Nope, can't figure it out. Is it even one of our trains? We don't have trains that terminate at Foxton."

:)

Aren't these displays Network Rail's problem though -as it's their station?
Perhaps they will pass it on to them, although I was confused as to why they wouldn't know where it was - where else would a train stop at Finsbury Park next stop towards Huntingdon/Cambridge??

True, it is indeed a Network Rail station. Mind you, the screens installed along the line are also installed and maintained by Network Rail (hence why FCC got lumbered with those green on green screens a few years back). On that basis, I wonder who is ultimately responsible for the information - given the infrastructure is Network Rail and the information is provided by FCC, but presumably having been told/recommended to use the Atos Origin software.

It seems to be a bug with all trains where they divide and the rest go ECS - today I spotted it on the Kings Lynn service. The rear 4 coaches went to CAMBTMD!

p.s. Jon - check out the front of the snacks vending machine at Hatfield now - how long has that been there? ;)

Funny this is still happening after bringing it to the attention of the directors on their forum and them saying they'd look into it. Maybe they did and saw it was broken and went 'oh, he was right' and that was their idea of looking into it.

Just like they said they'd investigate why there's no announcements at Hatfield on platforms 2/3 - since September last year (volume too low/speakers broken) and about the fact that the new kiosk blocks the view of the help point from the CCTV camera. Oh yes, after reporting TO THE DIRECTORS (supposedly) they've been quick to act, not.

I've lost money on the old vending machines at Hatfield so would NEVER use them again. It's a shame about the spelling and handwriting, but the warning is pretty valid!

Well FCC either did nothing, or passed it on to Network Rail who went 'sure, we'll fix it sometime' and erm, haven't yet.

The handwriting's not too bad, the spelling (or rather, grammar?) is - but we'll excuse that in lieu of the diagram of an actual trap they drew next to it ;)

I think everyone I know has lost money in that vending machine at least once - and the soup one next to it!

Another reason for not using it is that I called up and reported my loss and gave the reference number (to an answering machine) and got nothing. So they don't deal with complaints either, or they ignore them (same thing).

I wonder how much FCC gets from Selecta to rent platform space? Someone is on to a winner with these things.

A familiar TOC gets £100,000 per year to have these Selecta machines (some quite heavily armoured) on a lot of their stations, and a small % of profits which should cover operating costs (electricity).

I suppose considering all they are doing is giving 1 sq metre of space on a load of platforms and letting them plug it in, £100k is certainly worth the space lost!

Goes to show how much must actually get spent in these machines where £100k is just rent!
