Yep, £109 has priced me out the market now.

For me that tour offers pretty much nothing at the baker level track wise (bits and bobbins at quail level).

I did the one this year because it called at Basingstoke so no overnight stay required, just an early morning drive, however the one next year will either require a longer drive to Bristol or most likely an overnight stay so I decided it wasn't worth it, even though my red pen would have been out scoring several locos. Railtours are expensive these days

9th December 1977 While I had left school the previous summer, I was invited back to join the Railway Society's trip to the East Midlands. Permits were available for Etches Park, Derby Works and Toton and I bagged a good number of locos and DMUs for the Book of Sights. We were running early after the Toton visit and while we had some time built in for watching the goings on at Derby, three hours was too much so arrangements were made for us to migrate southwards to Birmingham for an hour and pick up our scheduled train, thus further wedging out the already overflowing notebooks.

Looking back from upon high, yes, it certainly was living on the 50s. But in those days, that was the norm. Leave work on a Friday (if you could be bothered to go in) head for the nearest 50 and pack up on a Sunday night. Into work on the Monday - repeat the following weekend .....

Nice to see the thread spring to life again. You probably won't have taken any notice 55013 but 43181 was virtually new "out of the box". A NE/SW PC loaned delivered new to Neville Hill with 43182 in December 81. Moved to Laira later in 1982.

I wish they would do something similar over the S&C nowadays, I only had 56030 on them turns but I missed out on some cracking locos on them turns.
I see 37429 on them lists too, one I had from Newport to Cardiff, i had 37426, 37430 and 37431, maybe 37428 too, on the Liverpool/Manchester- Cardiff turns. Definitely had 428-431 for haulage, 37427 always avoided me.

37429 was a monster - I've mentioned before that it was my favourite 37.
Luckily, I managed to get all 31 of the sub-class.

By the way, having discussed large logo 47s, you'll no doubt be pleased with the recent appearance of 47593.
It looks lovely in my opinion.

Both 37/4s and large logo 47s (including 47593) feature on the historical moves I'm about to relate, as does the NSE 86 and 58036 on two separate moves .
