I'm trying to find the cheapest fare for a friend of mine who needs to make a journey from London Paddington to Taunton on a Friday evening leaving around 5pm, returning on the following Monday afternoon. This is for a few weekends from now (can't remember which one).

She has a Zones 1-5 travelcard season and a Y-P railcard.

What I've come up with is:

CDS Hayes & Harlington to Theale rte NOT LONDON: £7.60
SSR Theale to Taunton rte NOT READING: £26.40
CDS Theale to Hayes & Harlington rte NOT LONDON: £7.60

    Total £41.60

The combination will only be valid on trains that take the Berks & Hants line and pass through Theale, but as far as I can see all the fastest ones do. These trains won't stop at either Hayes & Harlington or Theale, but that should be OK because Condition 19(c) allows this when the first part of the journey is covered by a season.

It seems very (surprisingly!) cheap but I don't think I've missed anything: the CDS is a B1 restriction so no problems using it on the fast evening trains out of Paddington, and the SSR also has no evening peak restrictions as it starts west of Reading.

Have I missed anything, or does this combination look good to go?

Don't think you have (however others may suggest something) though the conductor may not understand rule 19c with three tickets - some certainly don't - not sure of the best way to explain this to a non-railway friend!

Is bz5 to theale a little cheaper?

It depends on the date, but advance singles could be cheaper still with no lingering doubts as to validity
Certainly the case the next few weekends.

Some nice options there; thanks. Boundary zone ticket is the same price - and it's nice anyway to be able to buy everything online. Good point about advances; I wasn't expecting to find anything reasonably priced for that time of day on a Friday but I see on Friday 9th December for example, there is £18.80 (with railcard) available on the 17:36 off Paddington.
