If the child lock is on and the customer needs to validate the zip card, the staff member can turn the lock off and ask the customer to retry. This will validate the card.

This appears inadequate to me. If a passenger presents a valid card at a remotely manned gateline it should operate the barriers. If they want to flag certain ticket types for manual inspection then they should only be doing this is the man the barrier.
