I have just booked a trip from Euston to Birmingham and i was given seat reservations for:

Coach: B Seat: 25A from EUS - BHM
Coach: B Seat: 06A from BHM - EUS

I requested a window seat and wanted to know if these were the seats which have an unobstructed view and whether they are facing in the direction of travel. I have tried finding out online, but have not been able to find out.

You can find a seat plan here for both Voyagers and Pendolinos. First class should be at the London end of the formation.

Coach: B Seat: 25A from EUS - BHM
Coach: B Seat: 06A from BHM - EUS
B25
Facing window seat on the east side of the train
Not a good direct view out of the adjacent window

B06
Back to direction of travel on the west side of the train
No view at all

What ticket type do you have?
Once the reservations have loaded look for alternative seats

Between BHM and EUS
You might want to consider :
B48, B52
However, you've not advised if you require face/back to direction of travel

Coach B isn't the quiet zone on Pendo's- it's Coach A, same on the Super Duper Voyagers.

You can sit in any seat you like as long as your willing to give it up to someone who holds a reservation for it should they come and claim it (and your sat in the correct class for the ticket you hold ;)).

Damn, no free first class upgrade then.

Can someone tell me what the are the rules on this (or is it just ok to do), i know some ticket inspectors and especially RPI's like to be overzealous.

You can sit anywhere you like (correct class for your ticket) as long as you are prepared to give up your seat should someone with a reservation for that seat come along.

Seat 25 in Coach B does not show as a Limited View/No View seat on the plan? If memory serves, seat 06 in Coach B has a Limited view rather than no view?

It depends on what you call a view though
In my opinion it means being able to sit with your back on the seat and being able to see out of all of the nearest window with an unobstructed view, plus being able to see out of the window on the opposite side with an unobstructed view
A limited view is where there is intrusion on the nearest window, usually by the seat in front
No view is where the intrusion is in excess of 80% and/or excess of 50% on both windows

Even in First Class there are some seats like that
Some people prefer these seats, so that they can relax, work, etc

Yeah, nothing relaxes me more than a large slab of white plastic :)

Do the Pendolinos still have one completely unreserved coach in standard? Or am I getting mixed up with East Coast?

Hi jazza374, welcome to the forum! :)

Coach E in Standard accommodation is usually left unreserved on Pendolino's, based on the announcements i've heard onboard.

Thanks for the welcome, and thanks for the info. Two of us traveling from Glasgow to Euston on Wednesday and we have seats in different coaches. we can at least move to Coach E to sit together then.

Take a look at both of those seats, see if the seat next to each is free
If not, then head for Coach E
Most of the coaches have different layouts or even roof heights, visibility, etc
What can be a good seat in one coach can unusually have a different view in another coach

I definately know what you mean Rail-Britain.. There's a particular area in H or J (can't remember which) towards the London end of the carriage, which dips quite considerably.

In First Class I normally reserve the same seats

Southbound G45 J35
These are almost identical , but J35 has slightly less legroom

Northbound G1

The roof in Coach H is lowered for the pantograph
As a result the lighting seems more powerful!
This also impacts the views around the pillar
As you can see by the seating plan, the affected area is completely blanked out

It's similar in Coach C, which also has the roof intrusion for the pantograph
The pillar and resulting seating layout affects more seats, in effect 8 seats in total
