I agree with Kite, it's nice to know the 172/0s are out.
I don't do open days as a rule, but it's still interesting to see what was on show.
Interesting stuff.

The 172/0's are already painted in that awful (in my own opinion) purple and gold. Well the ones I saw were.
The 2 Cats were unexpected, as I thought I was to late for them, so was a bonus.
I was only really expecting the 139.

The Long Marston write up might take a while, there are 300+ items to sift through, and I made a point of writing down everything.......

Well its taken 3 hours to compare the list of stock that I wrote down and compare it with the stock list they gave me.
Good stuff I only missed 9 items of stock.
They however, missed 189.

It took me 4 hours to walk around the enrire site. There are 2 319's l didn't bother with as l got them last year, 5 D78 units I missed, and 2 wagons according to their sheet.
I realise that stock comes in and out consantly, but, that is not an insignificant difference.
What I will post on here is everything wrote down. I have noticed they put incorrect numbers on their stock sheet, and completely missed stock off that was on last years stock sheet, which clearly hasn't moved in a long while.

I will write it up when I get back to Blackpool.

Onwards to Reading.

After I had got back to my car, by which point it was absolutely pelting down with rain. I was trying to make my mind up where to go next. I was planning on Bath or Swindon, or possibly the GWSR. However, the rain ruled out the GWSR, and Bath and Swindon were just a bit to far to drive, bearing in mind afterwards I would have to drive back to Warwick. So I settled on Banbury, its 4 junctions down the M40 from where I was staying.

Banbury.

After a rather pleasant drive through (I presume the Cotswolds), on mainly empty roads I arrived at Banbury. It had stopped raining by then as well. I paid for the car park and purchased a ticket to Reading.
Dud 165029, was in the station and dud for sight but not haulage 221123 took me to Reading. Duds 165001, 165004 and 165025, were stabled outside the station. Dud 165103 was also passed.
On arrival at Oxford I bagged my first GW IET in the form of 802011, then back to the duds with 165121 and 165136. Then winnin XC 220022, went past. Chiltern duds 168109 and 168110 were in the bay platform. Dud 66186 was stabled at some sidings outside of Oxford.
Passing Didcot preserved winners 18000, 7029, and 08604 were in the heritage centre yard with dud carriage 35453. Winners 800023+800013 then past us on the fast lines.

Reading.

Going past the depot duds 57603 and 08836, were seen along with winners 387151, 387140, and 387130. On the other side winners 802018+802013 were joining from the west country.
When we pulled into the station 387169, 387133, 387135, 387167, were along side us. 800029 was also seen along with dud 165111. Over to the east bay platform and SWT winner 458517 was got. Dud 165204, rolled in next to it.
Next it was a cigarette and a top up of Dr. Pepper, and a whopper burger (with cheese) and a chicken royale (with cheese). Then it was to the bench at the east end of platforms 8+9, to munch my burgers and watch the winners roll past.
Starting with 387158+387156, then duds 458512 and 220019. Back to the winners, 800028+800004, 802010. 387146, 800003, 800303, 800307, 802101, 800313, 387134+387171, 387166+387165, 800033+800016, 800319, 800311, 800310, 387148+387161, then a bit of a break with duds 458511, 220003, 387159+146. Followed by dud, 165203. Then more winners, 387145+387168, 800312, 802104, then a repeat in the form of 800013+800023 came back from Paddington, also 802013+802018 came back as well.
Then more winners 800030+800008.
Then dud 458522 came into the bay. Back to the winners 800024, 800317, 387173, followed by dud 220016.
More winners, 387160, 800005+800035, 800003, 800304, then dud 221136, 800004+800028, 165108, 800016+800033, winner 800309 made an appearance. Back to repeats, 387133+387167.
Then it was
800307 was caught to Oxford.

Passing the depot 387138, 387168, 387145, 387130, 387140, 387151, 387144, 387139, 319423, 10590, 12142, 17175, 10225, 387153+387172 were passed.

Just before Didcot, I noticed some people sat in a field, I thought it was strange them watching the place where the IET swaps from electric to diesel.....

Then we passed Didcot. Where 60103 was ahead of a rake of west coast mk 1's. That explains the people sat in a field! Also seen were 1450 and poking out of the was a GWR railcar number 22.

Dud 66140 was at the yard outside Oxford. Dud 802104, 168329 and winner 168219 were in the bay platform.

Then for the second time today, 221123 was caught back to Banbury where 168003 and 165036 were the last duds of the day.

Back in the car to my digs at Warwick and a well deserved beer and a rest.

Certainly was a worthwhile day out. How long did it take to mark everything down at Long Marston?

Reading also paid dividends for you as well. Lots of GWR stuff finding it's way into your book of sights

4 hours it took to walk around Long Marston, I started at 1030, I was back at the car 1430. My legs were tired, hence not wanting to drive to far. I don't want to cause an accident, due to tiredness. I don't need that on my conscience.
Yeah I picked Reading to get the new GWR stock. I would have liked to stay longer, but, couldn't for the reasons mentioned above.

A quick cup of tea, before the Germans get here.

Sunday the 16th of June. Warwick to Shrewsbury via the Severn Valley Railway.

After checking of my hotel, I took a leisurely drive towards Kidderminster on a lovely sunny sunday morning. The roads were surprisingly quiet.

Kidderminster.

After parking the space star I heard the rumble of a Caterpillar in the distance and in rolled
20190614_191714.jpg
68013 with the same rolling stock I had travelled on the other day. I then purchased a fredom of the line ticket.
In the platform bay were carriages 2886 (LMS), 650, 9654 (both GWR), 1667 (BR), 7511 (LMS) and teak 7960. This rake would later form the dining car set.
20190616_110516.jpg

GWR pannier 7714 was my steed to Highley with carriages 4509, 4345, 34562, 4545, 1853, 25498, 16202.
Passing the loco depot, D4100, 40106, 50035, 33108, 13201, D821, 50044, 50014 (50007), 10713, 80329, 81013, 80328, 95194, and 975481. I got off at Highley to hopefully catch the diesel.

20190616_120920.jpg

Pannier 1501 was waiting to head towards Kidderminster.
Turns out the diesel was on the foot plate experience, because

20190616_123451.jpg

6960 came in its place. So back to Bewdley with carriages 80969, 25346, 1855, 4690, 21254, 4550, 3109.
At Bewdley a quick change was made onto 75069 with carriages 43612, 52255, 1856, 24105, 24506, 25771, 2701, to Bridgnorth. The carriages in this set were a mix of BR, LNER and LMS.
DR73202, was passed at Highley.
At Bridgnorth, teddy bear D9551 was with a breakdown crane. D3586 and kettle 2857, were outside the shed. D1062, was at the far end of the line. The same train was caught back to Bewdley.

At Bewdley there was an hour fester, where,

50031 came in with the LMS rake with carriages 27218, 27270, 26880, 149, 2300, 12992, 24817. It headed off towards Bridgnorth. Kettle 4144, was ahead of 108's, 50933, 51941, 52064, 59250, 56208.

6960 was caught again to Kidderminster. Passing Kidderminster depot in the opposite direction, I caught a glimpse of 37688, inbetween the 50's, and 08896, and 09107. I then paid for the car park and made my to Shrewsbury and my digs for the next 2 nights.

Thank you. It was a pleasant afternoon. And I managed to take pictures of steam locomotives without breaking the law.

Monday 17th of June 2019, a day out in Cardiff.

My purpose for this trip was to see if I could find my last dogbox, last 4 Welsh pacers, and, get a 37 for haulage in the valleys.......

Shrewsbury.

After leaving the hotel, before breakfast was served, to catch the 10 past 8 train to Cardiff Central. I walked to the station to purchase my ticket for the princely sum of £60, which is a damn sight cheaper than getting there from Blackpool.
I made my way to the platform, where dud doggybox 153353 was at the platform and then left. No idea where it went. Then my train rolled in. Dud for sight, good for haulage 175102, has now been coloured in in my book.

The following duds were also seen at Shrewsbury, 170502+170505, 158840 and 158829.

Newport.

Seen leaving Newport as we were entering the station was dud 158824. In the station were more duds, 800030+800008, 165131+165215.

Cardiff.

20190617_133258.jpg

Just outside Cardiff, dud 60092 was seen, but on arrival part of my mission was complete. In the platform accross from me was 153312, doggy boxes now complete!

After a cigarette and purchasing an expensive platform ticket in the form of a £13 valleys day ranger, (rover tickets are a god send as a smoker), I gathered my bearings and settled at the west end of platforms 3/4.

Here comes an attack of the duds...

Had a small electrical fire on my taxi last week. The ignition circuit has since been rewired.

I like how your packet of fags are in a photo about a fire  you didn't try to start the car with one did you?

Also, nearly 375000 miles is pretty impressive. I bet there are some modern trains that don't manage that before they reach the scrapheap

That bomber won't be going over the PIT again. The owner is still ndecided what he is going to do with it.
