Hi guys,

Does anybody know where platform 3 at Bridgend stands? I have passed through the station a few times and have only ever seen platform 1, 1A and 2?

1a is the VoG platform, 1 is the Down platform, 2 is the UP platform, 3 is the bay platform on the UP side, used if disruption for Maesteg services to turm them around there. Vary rarely used, and currently difficult to access due to the building work putting in the new lifts.

Well looking from sattelite you have the two through platforms, a long north facing bay and a very short south facing bay.

I know what each platform is but I can honestly say I've never seen it, it must be behind all the shrubbery on platform 2.

Correct, there is a low wall with shrubs and seats built into it on the Swansea end of platform two, platform 3 is the other side of the wall. See the picture I added to my original post

Is platform 3 only used in times of disruption, or are there one or two timetabled services (perhaps Sundays only?) that use it?

NRU according to last year's Baywatch, I don't think that has changed since.

It was used a couple of times a day when the Maesteg trains were first introduced back in 1992, IIRC. However, the decision was made shortly afterwards that it was better for trains to run through to and from Cardiff, rather than passengers having to change at Bridgend.

Every so often, if things go pear shaped and there is a unit in the right place, they will use it running a Bridgend - Maestaeg shuttle. Otherwise, there is no scheduled use of it (look at the rust on the rails in the picture!)

For those who may care, Bridgend now has a fancy new bridge in place, since last Saturday night. Lifts go in next weekend, apparently.

Ooh its in? Been following its progress on each run to Cardiff but Ive been on leave for a fortnight. Is it a modern monstrosity? I suspect so.

It's not bad, to be honest, it's pretty much a modern copy of the old one. What they should have done at Newport, really, instead of the crashed UFO they have there.

Newport is an abomination...and from above, strangely looks like a cross sectional view of the female reproductive system
