i noticed in the timetable there are ATW servuces on Sundays that terminate at WVH. Why are they timetabled to platform 4 instead of the bay platform 6 where they are safely out of the way of thrpouh services?

Yesterday a aervice was altered from plat 4 to 3

Well clearly they don't get in the way of through services, otherwise they wouldn't be booked into there...

I can't really see the problem though, many a time during the week one of the through platforms is blocked for a long time by the Euston VT service, it's just that it fits in well.

If i recall correctly, you can't get into P6 without a shunt as there is no crossover, that is why nothing is ever in there.

Platform 6 being the bay one on the ticket office side?

I have definately been in there during 2009 when the WVH - BHM line was closed, traction was a 2 car ATW 158 to Shrewsbury.

Back in the day when the majority of the Shrewsbury stopping services started/terminated at Wolves then I'm sure they used to depart from plat 6.

Whether they arrived at Plat 6 I'm not sure. From the post by The Planner it would suggest not. If a shunt was required then I suppose this would have been possible at that time as traffic levels through WVH were nothing like they are today.

There are two platforms on the ticket office side, the other one is 5 where LM's Walsall via Birmingham services arrive and depart from.

I've definitely used Plat 6 to depart on an ATW a service to Shrewsbury in the past under the same circumstances, and they have also used it to terminate ATW services short when they are running late.

Just thought it was strange that it's there and wasn't being used.

34 minutes per hour. Arrives x:11, departs x:45. They used to come in on 1 or 2, go up the line empty and depart from 4 but these days they don't bother.

I suppose it's easier to do now there isn't a direct Walsall service which can't terminate on P5.

There is no access from the UP lines into Wolverhampton across Platform 6.

Any services that depart from there must shunt out from Plats 2/3/4.

I believe at peak times they may terminate at WVH, then to save blocking a through road and platform run along the line (to Oxley?) for cleaning then back for the return.

Not sure this is still done though now

They may do in the morning peak. traintimes.im suggests that they are timetabled to depart from 3 or 4, then starting with 8:45 they all depart from platform 2 for the rest of the day.

To be honest, with those, there is a high chance they are straight off depot. Do any trains leave London in time for any return working before 8.45am?

What I said may have happened at one time, I recall reading about it, but things may well have changed since

Yes, the 8:11 arrival is the first into WVH from Euston. It's worked by a London crew and departs as the 8:45.

So it doesn't look like anything runs empty to Oxley anymore. (Good, I'm all for saving energy).

That is correct planner, no passenger has entered platform 6 from the up or down direction as passengers need to be detrained as it is not a main aspect signalling shunt but GPL's are used. I have taken many trains into P6 from 2,3 & 4 especially when W & B used to have to terminate at Wolves either for late running or engineering works.
