You were so lucky... been a long 4 years trying to get the drivers job and I am so glad to be here now. Just finishing my training this week and about to start at my depot on Monday.

8 years I was in the police and I couldnt be happier to leave and get the job I wanted. Skipped out the door

Such a depressing read. I don't mean that to insult anyone posting. What the hell are we doing to the world, by that I mean workers. Good luck folks. You deserve it.

Thanks. It is such a shame I agree. But feel I cannot endure any more

It's sad that this thread is receiving such a negative response from police officers but seems to be an accurate depiction of life on the front line these days. I left the police after 12 years on response purely for the reason that I could not specialise within the job. There are some fantastic jobs available in the police but competition is particularly fierce for them and the post often already filled before the advert has even gone out (making the whole internal recruitment process a farce.)

I'm applying for various train driver jobs at the minute and things sound a lot rosier track side!

I’ve been in 15 years and currently in the talent pool for GWR. I have seen so many things in my time and had numerous RDs cancelled and home life messed up. I can however say I have enjoyed the majority of my career but it is now at the worse it has ever been. I think the starting wage is so wrong for what we go through and I can honestly say ( fingers crossed) I can’t wait for the day I hand my notice in!!

16 years for me. The first in a large Home Counties force in the south east for 13 years, and just done 2.5 years in a small county force in the Westcountry.

I echo everything that has been said here by previous and current serving officers.

I absolutely loved the job. Now it is a complete shambles.

Whilst it is completely your choice, between the two the railway is a no brainer. I wouldn’t recommend the police now to anyone.

I’m still in the recruitment stages for SWR and GWR and any job offer I get I will rip their arms off to leave the police.

16 years, finished last November as a DC on the regional crime squad... back to a final salary pension, better money, no stress... wow...... loving my work life balance. I've gone to a freight operator so dont even have members of the public spoiling your day.... if anyone doubting leaving the safety blanket of the Police, do not worry.... I miss a few people, but those are friends and I still see them socially. They tell me of the new management decisions and all it does is reaffirm that I made the right choice....
