If you assume that Wigan-Lostock and Victoria-Stalybridge are wired in the next 10 years
Would that be a wise assumption? Seriously.

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K91991/2019/03/07/advancedHad a look on RTT and there is train scheduled to leave Loughborough Brush at 14:33 to Canton due to arrive at 21:23.
So initially for Northern but TfW (Transport for Wales) seem to be getting a 769 first!
How does that come about as 2 of what should be Northern 769s have been testing on the GCR (Great Central Railway).
Northern have 769s (2?) at Allerton already.

Very disappointing. The loco from Leicester arrived and all.Cancelled.
It could roll back down at it's leisure, I'm sure. You mean one might actually finally move on the public network under it's own power, only for it to go pop when attempting to climb one of the hills in South Wales on a very wet day?

Mind you, I'm a bit surprised that a 769 (almost) got delivered to Wales before a 230. I though it was going to be the other way around.
Indeed. The impression I'd gotten over the past weeks/months was that it'd be the other way around.A 769 was ready (or was it ?) A 230 wasn't
Why might TfW have requested the cancellation of the delivery attempt...?
That assumes that TfW was the "customer" that requested the cancellation from Freightliner. It might make more sense to think of Porterbrook/Brush as Freightliner's customer. Why might TfW have requested the cancellation of the delivery attempt...?
thanks for the info. hopefully the neccessary changes for the unit to pass that test can be made soon.Understand from another Forum failed FTR (Fitness to run) Test.

(Compare it to the situation with buying something through eBay: Even though you're buying something from the seller, it's the seller that is Royal Mail's customer. The seller is the one who is given the tracking reference numbers, and the right to claim compensation for delays etc. from Royal Mail.)
I think what some people, certainly I, have a problem with is the constant hyperbolic predictions of project ending Armageddon every time there's the slightest setback. There is, right now, no reason to suspect that there are major problems. After all, "towards the end of March," could mean as early as the end of next week. That will be because things are going so well, as we are constantly told on here whenever anybody states the bleeding obvious.
Come on! How many deadlines/promised delivery dates do you think have to be missed to justify people asking themselves whether something will ever actually fly, or will instead be hidden away behind the shed in the hope that people forget what was promised?I think what some people, certainly I, have a problem with is the constant hyperbolic predictions of project ending Armageddon every time there's the slightest setback. People really need to stop assuming the negative just because they aren't being told every little thing that's happening.
I couldn't give a rat's proverbials how many deadlines are missed, if the end result is that it works.Come on! (and I speak as someone who really wants it to work for loads of different reasons)
Because of course, it's impossible that a setback could be caused by something mundane, rather than some inherent fundamental flaw coming to light that's being covered up by a massive conspiracy... Building / Testing / Approving trains is complex, it often takes longer than expected. It's not unusual for engineering (or whoever) to say it takes X weeks to do something, but the project manager then cuts the timescales down by 25% because they don't like the original answer or the client is pushing them for an impossible delivery date. Then when the project is completed after X weeks, it's suddenly late by that removed 25%. Nothing is fundamentally wrong, but everyone was given unrealistic expectations. I can understand people being angry / frustrated by the delays, but I completely agree with you that people jumping to the conclusion that the sky is falling gets old very quickly.I think what some people, certainly I, have a problem with is the constant hyperbolic predictions of project ending Armageddon every time there's the slightest setback. Ah ok missed that, somehow, thanks.Northern have 769s (2?) at Allerton already.
Coming from somebody who claimed last May that anybody complaining about the timetable fiasco on Northern was exaggerating and things were nowhere near as bad as claimed because your journeys from Wigan - Manchester weren't too bad, you won't mind too much if I just ignore what you think. However, as I said earlier, there is no reason to suppose that anything is seriously wrong. Unless/until we actually have firm information to go on, people need to wind their necks in and develop the ability to be patient.
