Virgin Trains de-rated their 221s to 700hp first, and then CrossCountry followed suit with their 220s and 221s - it apparently makes very little difference to performance so they say.
CrossCountry for the past year or so have had an engine isolated on most 221s to save a bit of fuel.

I'm not 100% sure if the 222s have been de-rated to 700hp or not, but unlike CrossCountry EMT like to keep all the engines on and running - they need all the power they can get with all the 125 running with tight timetabling.

Oh as a side note, it isn't possible to just leave an engine idling on a Voyager design train (220, 221, 222) - you might as well just turn the engine off and feed power through from the next coach. Like me a lot of you will have seen Voyagers that have an engine constantly idling - this is due to that coach having a fault with the traction equipment, so it has nowhere to put the power the engine is producing, so it shuts down power production from that engine, but does leave it running. A bit of a waste really.

The Cummins QSK19 engine is under the Siemens 185 and Alstom 180 as well. Have they been derated too?
Just interested if it is a generic engine problem or limited to the Voyager type.

I might wrong but I believe the derating applies to all classes. There's a rumour some 185s are limited to 600 bhp per engine

Its not an engine problem, its a uses too much fuel problem!
The QSK19 is a bloomin good engine just a bit big and thirsty for rail applications.
