With Preston Guild being celebrated this year, what chance is there of Virgin Trains naming a Pendolino or Voyager?

86212 carried this name. I remember being on a narrow boat on the canal near Shugborough many years ago when it whoosed past on a WCML express. "Cricky" said my mate. "You don't get overtaken by that very often!".

I remember when BR almost named 86212 City Of Preston, then remembered it wasn't a City it is now though. They renamed it Preston Guild.

It won't be a Voyager, as they are only named after famous explorers (voayagers!), as well as one named after Bombardier. As for 390s, maybe, but I'm not too sure which one they would dename in order to do so (I'm not sure if the new sets are being named or not).

It won't be a Voyager, as they are only named after famous explorers (voayagers!), as well as one named after Bombardier.
And another one named "Polmadie Depot" (221115). And as a point of trivia, 221142 only gained the "BOMBARDIER Voyager" nameplates from 220017 when Virgin removed all the nameplates from the 220s and 221s that passed over to the new Arriva XC franchise. Plus it's only the Super Voyagers that have been named after explorers; the 220s carried "...Voyager" names related to geographical locations served by the XC network.

Generally though I agree, the name would be more fitting adorning the sides of Pendolino, although with 390028 already named "City of Preston" it seems more than a little superfluous. Dedicating or decorating the nameplate of 390028 as Lampshade suggests seems the most likely.

I really hope that the four new 390s receive names. There's a few of the "Virgin" prefixed ones that are going spare now from other class members that have been renamed. Although that is, of course, assuming that Virgin retain the next West Coast franchise. If not, then all the Pendolino and Voyager names will go. :( I suppose that's probably part of the reason why 390054 and 390055 haven't had names affixed from new like all the other Pendos did.
