Seen at Stafford yesterday at Stafford on 1305 5Q70 London Euston to Edge Hill Depot. It stopped on the down fast for five minutes then left with its pantograph raised.

807002 was on 5Q55 0839 Oxley Car MD to Liverpool Lime Street and 5Q56 1134 return to Crewe today. I think that this is the first 807 to reach Liverpool.

Asked this on the TOPS requests earlier, but does anyone know which 805s were the double operating 5Q61 1231 Preston to Stoke-on-Trent.
Plain white livery, unfortunately the numbers were too small (And obscured by plants) for me to see.

If its a white pair, it will always be 805006/805007 (the unsold pair Hitachi use for testing). The only unbranded unit Avanti has is 805002

Saw one passing Milton Keynes today at 21:37. Only managed to get a few blurry photos because it was so quick and random, but was a nice bonus to my UK interrail trip ;)

Here are 805 009 at Euston on 15th April and 805 005 there on 29th April - in both instances in platform 10.

They really need yellow fronts if the dark blue front bit is that long. Very indistinct and undramatic.
Why do they need yellow? Are the 3 extremely bright lights on the front not noticeable enough?

I was thinking purely aesthetically
In purely aesthetic terms, I quite like them as they are - much better visually than the 390s...

This is one of those things that's very subjective to an individual, though. If you showed 100 of us a picture of any particular train and asked what we thought of the appearance of it, you'd probably get 100 different answers.

Its just that livery - the dark blue goes too far back, kind of hiding the front. Surely if you have a fast looking train you want the livery to show off the pointy front?

Yes, they look short, stubby and cheap when parked alongside a Pendolino. The Pendolino definitely looks like the more long distance train alongside it. Not sure if that’s got anything to do with the livery though, or more the fact the passenger doors start so soon on the 805. Or the Metro style pocket doors.

They’re not cheap-looking at all in my opinion. They look so much better than a 390.

805s commence passenger traffic from the start of the June timetable, initially it’ll be a mixed fleet of 221s and 805s covering the current 221 diagrams.

Is there any news of when the new EPS/MU/PS speed profile from Weaver Jn to Euston will be put into use to replace the Pendolino EPS/Voyager EPS/PS profile? I was under the impression that this was to be put into use at the start of April, but on a recent journey between Stafford and Crewe I saw that these new signs were covered up.

Black fronts make me think "Metro". Something about the classic yellow front on an 80x screams intercity to me for some reason.

The pocket doors look terrible on a fast train.

Today’s 1843 to Liverpool seems to be an 80x according to RTT.

I might take this one, how likely is this to be true?

It's not, I think it's 390156, many services are timed for 80x since they're a bit slower so that when they do take over, no adjustments will need to be made.

We will not see an 80x in service for a bit yet.

It's one of several 80x paths in the WTT (most heading for Chester/Holyhead), so one day it might be operated by a Hitachi unit.
But no guarantee that will be the case tonight.
It could be weeks away yet.
Until then a 390 will probably do the honours (with 221s for Chester services).
RTT gives the allocated timing path, until the actual unit is activated on the day.
