Hi guys,

Looking for some info and advice I currently work full time and I am trying to make the transition to working on the rail I have managed to get a sponsor and I am funding the PTS, track induction and small tool kit course myself but I have yet to meet with with my sponsor and have a talk and they also don’t give me much info on the phone.

I just want to know by me doing these courses they have told me I can get some weekend work as it’s busy just now but what sort of career can I look at by doing this I really don’t want to be in my job much longer and really want to peruse a career on the tracks but would weekend work be sufficient to then gain full time employment? And has anyone had any experience with agency work and what to expect any help would be greatly appreciated :)

I'm on agency with Coyles .
My advice is take your time and learn everything while your a blue hat. Don't rush to do any safety crital tickets till you've got the experience.

Which sponcer you with?

Hi guys thanks for the replies

Yeah I don’t want to rush I want to keep my full time job and then try get some nightshifts and weekends just to get some experience behind me on the tracks. I just want to make sure I am making the right move and this can lead somewhere which is why I don’t mind putting the hours in, I am based in Scotland and mcginleys will sponsor me providing I fund the course. I should have a meeting some time next week with them :) how do you find agency work?

I cant speak for every agency out there but with coyles I'm rarely out of work. At the moment normally 4 - 5 shifts a week depending weather I'm on level crossing barriers or down as a track man.
There are weeks where theres no work as well!

Question is: what agency work can you do on the tracks in London and how do you get into it, agency work like one week in six, with one good arm and one disabled arm? Have HGV2 but getting the wife to agree to that is impossible, don't know why but. Desk work is just soul destroying.
