Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere however a quick search didn’t yield an answer for me.

I have seen various formations where rail operations group are using locomotives to move new stock. Typically class 56/37.

mat the end of these formations are 2 or three carriages on the end of the new stock being moved.

my question is what are these for? My thoughts were brake vans however I am still not convinced.

Will either be translator vehicles that translates the loco brake (and/or coupling) to the same type as the stock being moved or brake force wagons, used if the stock is running without operational brakes.

The vans are normally there to provide brake force, during the stock delivery runs from Portbury there were normally five or so vans in use

They seem to make good use of the Dellner equipped 37's so it makes sense to do the same with the 47's, I don't understand this statement though:

Speaking to RAIL on March 20, Rail Operations (UK) Ltd Managing Director Karl Watts said the equipment fitted was not as powerful as that designed by ROG, but that this would not affect how the company plans to use the ‘47s’.

What equipment is being referred to here?
