Red Ballast in Scotland

In Georgia (USA) as a kid we used to find tonnes of gray granite ballast that was loaded with large pieces of fool's gold (iron pyrite).

BTW - as Dave Barry would say, "Malic Gabbro and the Plutons" would be a great name for a rock band.:p

I don't recall that from my journeys on the Crewe Independent Lines in Summer 1985. Any photos?

Sorry for delay replying on this. Can't post photos and haven't had time to trace them yet - but - 2004-2009 the Independents got more and more colourful. Definitely dark grey, light grey (sometimes almost white), brown (the OOU Down Chester) pink/red and IIRC variations of grey/green. Maybe I'll find #6 when I get to look at the pics.
