Can you get reservations on rovers?
Yes you can
You'll have to pay for it though
No you wont.... a simple tweet to the relevant TOC gets you a free reservation.
I've used this with TfW, Virgin, CrossCountry, LNER, ScotRail, GWR.
There is no charge for seat reservations. The most straightforward way is to get a station ticket office to do them for you.
TPE did years ago, unless I was being fobbed off
Where/when was this?
Was it for travel on GWR? The only thing I can think of is GWR tried charging for reservations for walk-up tickets if the reservations were not made at the time the ticket was purchased, and they asked other TOCs to make this charge, but it was largely ignored. It was then abandoned.
@yorkie it was about 8 years ago on the old First TPE from Manchester to where, I cannot remember.
I think they wanted £20 for the both of us.
I've just googled TPE now and you can book online up to ten mins before departure!
Wish I knew about this before, I just assumed they would charge.
You learn something new everyday...
That sounds very odd; there should have been no charge at all, let alone £20!
Didn’t NXEC try and bring in a £3 fee but was quickly scrapped?
@yorkie I've found the original email from 2011 - it was £5 each.
