I've just read it :(. Such disgraceful people. Better be glad the mystery gunman didn't have luck bigger than Joe Stroud and the other photographers or else they would have been gone, forever.

Rowing events between GB'S Heather Stanning plus Helen Glover postponed due to high winds.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/37003607
BBC Sport said:
High winds meant that Sunday's Olympic rowing events were postponed at the Lagoa Stadium in Rio.

Team GB's Heather Stanning and Helen Glover were due to compete in one of 10 events beginning at 12:30 BST.

However, bad weather delayed the start by two hours before the rowing was eventually called off.

All of the races will now take place on Monday, where Glover and Stanning will begin their defence of their pairs title from 16:30 BST.

The weather caused problems on Saturday for Serbs Milos Vasic and Nenad Bedik, who capsized during their men's semi-final.

Play was also delayed on the outside tennis courts because of the wind, while the start of the canoe slalom event was delayed by one hour.

I doubt I will. Somehow I think it won't be as good as London's.

I was quite impressed, given that it was widely reported beforehand it was going to be a much lower budget event than Beijing or Lindon

Russian athletes are confirmed to be banned taking part in the Paralympics following the doping scandal:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/disability-sport/37002582
BBC News said:
Russian athletes have been banned from competing at the Rio 2016 Paralympics following the country's doping scandal.

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) had opened suspension proceedings following the McLaren report, and has now confirmed the ban.

That report, published last month, detailed a state-sponsored doping programme operated by Russia.

The Russian Paralympic Committee will reportedly appeal against the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

In contrast to the IPC, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) chose not to hand Russia a blanket ban from the Olympic Games.

Lots of empty seats. Unfortunately.

The women's bicycle road race saw a Dutch cyclist have a terrible crash on what's frankly an unsafe course (the same stretch claimed a few male cyclists yesterday...).

She was lucky not to be killed.

That's probably down to zika.

I saw the crash too, live. Looked fatal at first sight. Thankfully, she is stable. Several news sites are already making scare stories out of it.

I watched the men's gymnastics on Saturday (with my little niece who does gymnastics at school) and am amazed by the strength and agility of these people. How on earth do you perform on say the rings or bars or the pommel horse. Incredible. It was the first time i had ever sat and watched the programme of gymnastics and it was superb. Being a northern bloke you don't often watch namby pampby poncy stuff ;)

Considering the media include the likes of Helen Skelton, it would seem a fairly reasonable place for bullets to end up ..............

whats up with Helen Skelton. She seems like a nice, pleasent, attractive young woman

She sounds like she's presenting for Newsround and she cannot sit still for more than two seconds. I keep wanting Rebecca Adlington to push her into the pool.

Lots of empty seats. Unfortunately.

They're having huge problems with the security lines, which is having a big impact, especially earlier on in sessions.

The Games coverage is much better on the website/freesat interactive channels where you don't get the pundits getting in the way of the action!

With so many bad injuries so far (bikes, gymnasts, hockey) I wonder if they will start to use a four-second delay on the coverage...:P

I've heard they are gonna reclassify women's handball as "blood sports" <D

That's how I've been watching most things. They got caught out last night in the fencing, with the BBC showing the bronze final "live" about ten minutes after everyone knew Richard Kruse had lost in very dubious circumstances.

Can't be are horrid is our coverage.
Channel 7(Our Olympic broadcaster) has 3 channels to use. 7(and 7HD), 7Two and 7Mate. More often than not there could be live sport happening but all 3 have replays of something else on.
They even have some socical media show called Buzz from Brazil. Never mind we want to watch the sport.

Thier app online streaming they have is not much chop as well. I wouldn't spend the 20 bucks they're asking to get premium access(Which is access to every sport). I get it all for free anyway.

I was watching the gymnastics on the BBC Sport app, and sadly you can't get rid of everyone talking. I don't want to be mean, but Beth Tweddle has no broadcasting skills whatsoever - even her colleagues had to keep bailing her out and ending her sentences for her. The sooner we get away from offering a job to anyone who's ever won a medal the better....

There are the Olympic Games and then there are World Championships.

Was the original idea of the Olympic Games to encourage personal performances of athletes, regardless of any team ethos? If so, what is this motto "I am Team GB" supposed to convey?

Japan unexpectedly defeats New Zealand in Rugby Sevens 14-12
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/aug/09/new-zealand-japan-rugby-sevens-rio-olympics-2016
The first day of the men’s Olympic rugby sevens will forever be remembered for one of the sport’s more remarkable results. Just as they did at the 2015 Rugby World Cup in Brighton it was Japan who supplied the biggest of shocks, downing New Zealand 14-12 on the opening morning of pool competition.
I was kind of not expecting this result at first but at the end, they rose like the sun on their flag! Well played, Japan!

Had this been the World Championships, I would have understood the point that you are making, but is not the Olympic Games supposed to be about the individuals striving to achieve their best, not about teams.

Oh dear , I guess I got a little carried away there!

Coverage of previous Olympic Games used to be dominated by swimming (week one) and track & field (week 2) with coverage of other sports being somewhat random. However the availability of so many BBC Red Button channels means the choice so far is been very good. At one point there were 10 streams running.

Now swimming and rugby 7s both leave me cold but having built up an interest in women's tennis in recent months (thank you BT Sport) I have been following that Olympic tournament quite closely. There have been some excellent matches, big upsets and when they're there (ie evenings) the crowd support has made for a fun atmosphere. Jo Konta has now reached the quarter finals: unfortunately the upsets have mostly been in the opposite half of the draw. She is the 3rd highest ranked remaining player but will likely need to beat both the two above her (Kerber, then Keys) to reach the final. Oh and Germany is the only country with two competitors left, and potentially they could meet in the final.

I finished this evening's entertainment, and it most definitely was precisely that, with some weightlifting. Assuming that anti-doping measures have made it an honest sport weightlifting is a fun watch with the competitors giving supreme effort whilst accepting defeat, which eventually reaches them all, with a good deal of dignity. Also nice to see nations represented that hardly feature in other sports like Turkey, Kyrgyzstan and Indonesia. Though tonight's gold was inevitably won by a Chinese.

The return of the Premier League this weekend seems horribly mundane in comparison!

GB having their backsides handed to them by Fiji in the Rugby Sevens final. Half-time score is GB 0 - 29 Fiji.

I love the BBC's optimism

Great Britain 7-36 Fiji

GB are on the board! Dan Norton in the corner! Four minutes to go. The fightback starts here!

TBF to Fiji though, they have been on fire this tournament. Either way, still a pretty good day for team GB on the whole.

And it's over, Fiji's first ever medal and it's a gold! 43-7

I watched the part of that match, well played to Fiji and well done to them for getting their first medal: a gold!

That was ridiculously one-sided, shows the difference between a team of sevens specialists or a team mostly borrowed from the 15-man game.

EDIT - Never mind- getting confused between the various cycling events!
