I am extremely impressed with how well Avanti are running today despite the fairly late suspension of industrial action. No cancellations due to shortage of traincrew so far with only three services planned to not be running the full length of their schedules.

Although I doubt those left to hang around Chester station for an hour for an on-going train to North Wales will not be quite so impressed when one of your three, the 1801 off Euston deposits them there!

Obviously not but on the whole it’s a good effort from Avanti. The 17:00 & 19:00 appear to be running okay from Euston so not too bad for those advised in advance. I’m sure most people would check ahead anyway.

As many passengers will have changed or cancelled their journeys for today it will hopefully mean that many trains will be quiet too.

Meanwhile I'm on an LNER Aberdeen which is completely full and standing in both classes of travel.

Admittedly it was always likely to be cosy due to the Durham Coast diverts, but we're bound to have would be Avanti passengers on here.

Yes I think they’ve been like that every Sunday during these and previous diverts.

lovely journey back from Manchester yesterday evening. A carriage to myself! Bang on time also. We should announce then cancel strikes at the last minute more often ;)

Avanti have done a good job running a full service on little notice. Impressive.

Don’t worry, the Avanti Edinburgh services have been similarly cosy on recent Saturday’s when LNER haven’t been going south of Peterborough.

Is why there is no tickets for sale for Sunday 23rd March?
The Sunday strikes have only been suspended for 3 Sundays - 16th Feb, 23rd Feb, 2nd March. This is to give more time for negotiations.

They're still set to go ahead from 9th March to 25th May.

Unless an agreement is reached in the negotiations of course.

You can thank ASLEF's company council for Sunday's services, not Avanti. Both conspired to break drivers terms and conditions for those trains to run.

I'm grateful, but very surprised by this turn of events given the state of industrial relations at Avanti I'd have expected them to stuck by what was planned, i.e. nowt!

Behind the scenes Avanti were definitely confident that Sundays strike would be cancelled. 3 minutes after the email arrived from the RMT resources sent out the DAS for Sunday. This was obviously already done before the announcement.

Playing fast and loose with the RMT negotiations is one thing, and, in a way, very much to be expected. But the accusation above is that the driver's conditions were broken which is quite a bit more serious and not usually a step you'd expect Aslef to let slip. Obviously without details as to what particular condition, and I don't even have access to Avanti's driver conditions anyway, it's impossible to say further.

If Avanti said this about your specific travel date, you're entitled to rely on it and travel on the revised date. You're also entitled to swap back.
The problem was they didn't - they set a precedent for previous dates but not specifically for this one.
Anyway, with our original tickets now being useless, we have asked and got a full refund, and booked Superfare tickets for Saturday and Monday instead, which worked out cheaper in the end anyway.

All action has been suspended following a new offer from Avanti. It’s a good news week it seems on the railway again.

Really great news so i can now go ahead with my plans on booking services without doubt in my mind that they won't happen.. Why the hell didn't AWC sort it out weeks ago? Without trawling through pages, were offers made that were dismissed.

Take XC out of the equation and yes, it's been a good news week on the railway.

I think most have given up even trying to understand the word ‘why’ when it comes to AWC.

It'll be sorted just in time for WMT to be balloted no doubt to even it up :-/

And this nonsense (no dig at any TOC involved) will go on and on, but hey when it is a all under one banner, a red one, the travelling public can have total confidence that all will be sorted and this will be a thing of the past... I'm old enough to remember '"the good old days". Can't wait!!

Hi All - is anyone in this thread an Avanti TM by any chance? I begin my training on 31st March in Crewe, after working in an office for 10+ years, and so just have some questions regarding today's news and a few other things. Would love to private message with some questions if anyone would help?
