IIRC, the public letter boxes were only to be found in the postal sorting vans and not in the stowage vans, which alternated with them in most Travelling Post Office formations.I may have posted a letter in it in around 1990
804xx definitely a stowage van (no sorting racks) type NTX (POT).So was it a sorting vehicle (aka ‘Travelling Post Office’) as per the thread title or a stowage vehicle (for sealed mailbags)?

Here are two POTs and a BPOT with posting box:
Double edged sword - it prompted me to dig out my copy of "An Illustrated Hustory of the Travelling Post Office" (by Peter Johnson) - and now I'm looking at my four Bachy TPO sorting vans and 4 packs of Hurst brass overlays and thinking: "time for some modelling"....I obviously DRC* then!
