Definitely best left in my opinion. On some occasions we were told to have a brief look at what we would be discussing the following day to get the gist of it and asked what we thought, many times when reading it the night before it was confusing and was always much easier to understand when talked through with the trainer.
There is definitely a danger of confusing yourself by reading ahead and getting the wrong end of the stick. You'll probably be better served reading up on the basics of how signalling works etc for a bit of an insight, but again don't get bogged down in detail and wait until it is fully explained in class.
