Running EMR and LNER trains through the Thameslink Core to Brighton. Good or bad idea?

64 minutes plus the 30 minute frequency, pushes it to 94 minutes. So, doesn't really meet 90 minutes or under GJT.

But a theoretical frequency improvement (say to every 15 minutes - if that were practical.on the infrastructure) would push it under the bar quite comfortably.

GJT is journey time plus the half the average interval.

So in this case 64 +(30/2) = 79

Getting to Cambridge and Bedford from Brighton is pretty decent. Peterborough could be there in theory, isn't due to the service pattern.

I would think, if Cross County destinations were of interest, that extending a future wired North Downs fastest service from Reading might be worth trialling. Brighton to Guildford may well be interesting too.

The cross-overs between fast and slow mean a Brighton-Watford connection is likely to never return. But Watford is not what it once was, for WCML connections - those may return though post-HS2.

Equally, I think you'd struggle to justify trains of less than 8 cars getting a path south of Three Bridges! And connections are pretty solid today, from a good number of stations.

What we need is people to realise how attractive Thameslink is from Brighton to St Pancras, and then a short walk to Euston to join the WCML there (or HS2 in future).

That requires 2 things: The walking connection to be advertised better both on national connections maps and the Tube map, and the route itself to have improved signage and environment (believe there was a thread recently on just such a topic).

As it happens, Journey planners will still recommend tube between Euston and St Pancras (although they're more likely to offer you Victoria line to, well, Victoria depending on your ultimate destination). I've even had National Rail enquiries suggest the northern line to Blackfriars to pick up thameslink there before. Putting the walking connection into journey planners properly would raise awareness quite quickly.

Erm... Northern Line to Blackfriars? Presume you mean London Bridge? ;)

I definitely did Northern Line from Euston and boarded at Blackfriars, so must have changed to the circle at Embankment. Which I'm starting to think may have been my choice rather than a journey planner suggestion...
