Seems the seats on the not-so-old S stock trains are getting threadbare and worn looking already. The material isn't the same as used on other Tfl stock. Was it an 'economy measure' that didn't work out? I hope the people who are handling the orders for new trains are aware of just how badly this fabric has worn under the pressure of so many London bottoms.

14 years old some units

Easy to forget how old some of the S Stock is, I remember waiting at Wembley Park for the very first S stock passenger service to pull in, it only feels like a couple of years ago!

But yes, some of the seats are in a state, but that applies to most lines.

I always thought it was to do with people putting their feet on the seats, as the problem seems to be much worse on the traverse seating than the longitudinal seating.

I suppose it’s not as easy to say that as the S8s have been in service longer than the S7s, and the traverse seating does tend to be more popular.

On the S7 stock, you can tell which seats are popular from how threadbare they are and it's usually the tip up seats or the ones nearest the doors.

I assume the 2009 stock isn't the same sort of material hence why it looks in a bit better condition than the S stock. Both are due a mini refurb but money being tight means it's low in priority but I think a moquette similar to the refurbished 1992 stock would be good.

I have been told there was a manufacturing defect on the S stock moquette. Presumably TfL were given the opportunity for a re-trim or some money back. I am guessing they chose the latter…….

There's been words about a retrim for years now. No clue when it'll happen but, again as everyone has said for these years, I can't imagine it's very high up on TfL's priority list considering their financial situation
