Nicola Sturgeon, the first minister, announced the measure as she set out plans to deal with the "humanitarian emergency" caused by soaring energy bills.

Nothing to see here. The next increase isn’t until March 2023…

Hardly news. Uk government has already announced fares won't be going up until March 2023 ! So just some spin from the Scottish government

The UK government's writ doesn't extend into Scotland when it comes to transport. So no spin.

Unless of course it includes unregulated fares such as Advances that can be put up at any point. For example, Northern-set Advances increased on Monday.

There are three fares setting rounds each year - January, May and September. The biggie (where most fares change) is in January but the Government has already said that the January increase will be delayed until March (as it was this year).

The Northern Advance increases were part of the September fares setting round.
